Wunderlich screen for C600...

I just wonder how this would be better or worse than installing the wunderlich deflector on a stock screen. But as we all know, the stock screen needs help.

We were talking about this over breakfast this past Sunday. I've been riding BMWs since 1985, and not ONE BMW model I've ever owned has come with a windscreen worth a damn. Like Harley owners and exhaust systems, the first thing that HAS to go on any BMW model is the factory-supplied windscreen.

My friend's hypothesis is that it is all marketing. For example, the bulbous windscreen currently on my K1200LT (made by Aeroflow) is the most effective windscreen I've EVER used... but it sure is funny looking. The stock windscreen looked far more "sleek and sexy" on the showroom floor. He believes the factory designs the windscreens to be as effective as possible while still looking attractive on the showroom floor. He may have something there.

OTOH, the Aeroflow replacement screen for the C650GT doesn't look "odd" at all. I guess it just doesn't look as "sexy" as the stock screen with it's complex outline with all the scalloping and cutouts.

Just look at all the European Tmax riders with their teeny-tiny "cool" sport windscreens. Not only did the OEM screen not work worth a damn, but the Sport Screens are essentially good for looking nice in a photo shoot. You're sitting in a semi-touring position on the Tmax, but also have to lean into the wind blast over 30 mph with a sport screen? What cost your Boy Racer image?

The "weird-looking" GIVI Airflo that fits TONS of bikes works amazingly well, but I've only see 2 or 3 EVER on a Euro Tmax. Those riders say that "sure, it's ugly, but boy it works well"...and their friends rip on 'em...

KYMCO made the same mistake with their new Xciting 400i. In a four-way test, it placed third, but the writer said it would have WON...with a better windscreen, instead of the tiny factory Sport Screen...

You CAN"T have it both ways...want a Sport Bike? Buy one! Don't try to make your C600, or Tmax 530, etc. act like one...it CAN'T...

Not sure if I posted it here before, but I installed the Wunderlich deflector on my C650. This web page also contains a good video on how to install/adjust it.

Wind Deflector, Clear 8110025 | BMW Wunderlich America

After a very short amount of time, my eyes adjusted to having it in my field of vision (I have it mounted so that its center is at eye level). I can imagine some people not being able to deal with it. It knocked down the wind buffet and noise by 80% or more and makes the ride so much more enjoyable. With the electronic windscreen, I can make fine adjustments on the fly.

I decided on the deflector instead of a full blown screen, because I think in the warmer riding months, I'll want to lower the screen all the way, pull in the side deflectors that come with the GT version of the scooter, and remove the Wunderlich so that I can get some wind blowing on me.
