2014 Scooter of the Year

It was more than just the electric windshield that sold me. The amount of PERMANENT storage capacity (as opposed to "just when parked"), and passenger floorboards (instead of just pegs) was more important... though the windshield certainly didn't hurt.
 
I was on the highway the other day and a guy on a GS1200 came up behind me. I could see him in my rear view mirror trying to check out the scooter and the WTF face as I'm cruising at 80mph in the fast lane. I think the editor of the article pointed out in the comment that the beauty of the C class scooters it that they really can replace a traditional motorcycle and be your only bike. I really wish other manufacturers would give a stronger push at this category in the states.
 
All of the above, plus the added leg room to stretch out while riding. I have been on the bike for as much as 8 hours in a day and never have had back fatigue. That backrest/support is da bomb. My number one "want" when I met the sales guy was a bike that would be super comfortable for long rides. From the time I took it for a test drive, I've thought that this is really a touring bike with a scooter moniker. Haven't changed my mind yet. :)

Well deserved win. I really love this bike. It's what I use to go to work and it clearly has advantages riding in Manila traffic.

1. Motorists give you room. You are no ordinary MC on the road on a work week.
2. The traffic cops let you through, stopping other vehicles, admiring the bike as you pass. Remind me to buy them coffee and donuts.
 
I plan on keeping the 650gt until I hang up my helmet for good. It's one of the handiest machines for errands and getting around town. Its stablemate, a '95 K1100LT with 11k miles is a wee bit more fun to ride but not as handy. The GT is also easier on my knees than the k bike. When it comes to carving the mountain roads around here the K bike is the proper tool but for general purpose use, running errands and such the GT is best. Oddly enough when traveling to Rogue River or Grants Pass, two nearby towns. with the Mrs. aboard we go on the GT. She likes the GT pillion better than the much smaller rear seat on the K bike. The scooter doesn't seem to notice the passenger much either, plenty of power and brakes and still quick with both of us aboard.

BTW the '14 would be a much better bike if they still had the red color. Faster too.
