In case anyone is interested, I did some obd logs on my scooter to check mostly rpm at different speeds, intake temp, ignition timing.

The scooter has a full exhaust (akrapovic muffler/arrow headers combo), Malossi variator with 22gr fitted and white Malossi contra spring.

This short trip consists of city riding, mostly flat/downhill roads.

In search for the optimum “cvt setup” for maximum acceleration/top speed I did another experiment.

What we know is that during acceleration, rpms need to be at least 7300. Ideally 7500-7700, depending on mods like high air flow exhaust or ecu tune.

I know that jcosta does exactly what is needed, high rpm at wot, decent top speed, 180+, probably 190, depending on pin weights.

Since I already have a Malossi variator, I try to find out whether I can accomplish similar operation as the jcosta, avoid paying additionally 600+ for the xrp version.

I thought that if the stock roller weight (43gr) on the stock variator produce 5000-5500 rpms at wot from 60 to 120 km/h, maybe a very light roller, lower than 30 gr could result to 7000+

Since I got the Malossi rollers, I thought I could try the 24 gr. If that could work, I then could order 24 sliders dr pulley.

So I did and I got the following (disappointing result):

Keep in mind that the higher rpm you see after 120+ km/h happens only because the belt has reached its maximum radius for the current setup. So the result is 6000-6600 from 60 to 120 km/h. If I got the Dr Pulley 24 gr sliders, it would be similar rpms but the difference would only be that the belt would reach maximum radius at approximately 167 km/h.

So back to Malossi variator.

I might try 22 gr sliders on the Malossi.
Has anyone else tried this combo? Does it work?

I did another obd log now trying 20gr rollers on the malossi variator.

As you will see, rpms not got to the sweet spot, 7000-7300+ at wot.

I will post another topic comparing 24 - 22 - 20 gr rollers.
