I'm currently considering a 2017 BMW C650 GT with around 35,000km on the clock. It looks well-maintained, and the price seems fair compared to others on the market. However, I'm unsure whether that mileage is a concern for a maxi-scooter like this.

A few questions:

Is 35,000km a lot for a C650 GT if it’s been serviced regularly?

Would you recommend going for it, or holding out for a lower km unit?

Any advice or personal experience would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Kayko

35,000 km is low for a 2017 C650. Mine is from 2016, currently has 29,000 km on the clock and still rides like new. As you write, regular maintenance is important, as is a good test ride to check everything out. That all said, lower mileage at the same price is always better. Your decision should also depend somewhat on how much you plan to ride it.

I'm a new owner of a 2020 here in the US. Is the scoot you're looking at a left-hand or right-hand scooter??? :) Just kidding!

The important thing is that you are looking at a '17, which is in the Gen 2 variety. I was ONLY looking at the '16 and newer for the added upgrades from the Gen 2.

Mine had just 7,000 miles (11,265 km) on it and I paid equivalent to your $12,799.00 AUD. I paid top dollar, but around me here in the US and in state of Michigan, scooters are hard to find in low mileage and good condition. I also have a couple Harleys, but I'm 75 and the Harleys are getting a bit too top heavy for me to walk around in parking lots with etc. I also have two Hondas, an '85 CH250 Elite and a '98 CN250 Helix. The Helix is a blast to ride, smooth and handles great. The Elite has the older short wheelbase and sits taller and it a bit choppy on the ride. The Beemer is a true dream to ride, quick enough and rides/handles better than the Harleys.

Depending on how many of these you have to choose from and the price they're asking, if the pickings are scarce, I would go for it.

Good luck with your hunt.

Major service due at 40km. If done at the dealer, it's expen$ive. From what I've gleaned from Aussie riders/writers, it sounds like even if you do the work yourself, parts are expensive and not easy to procure. Might be better to wait for a bike with fewer km's, then you only need to worry about the basics, oil and filter (easy, no tupperware removal required), CVT filters, air filter, etc. Not uncommon in this country for owners to sell their BMW C 650 GT before it hits 24,000 miles, because they don't want the big maintenance bill.
