I used to always solder all splices, now I just twist and wrap.
Not only easier but I believe more reliable.

Nice thread, thanks to all.
Shrink tubing makes a nice, tight, strong connection and relieves the strain on the twisted portion.
I think I will add a couple of different connectors, thanks for posting.
