I'm facing serious surgery in late June. I anticipate it will be months before I will be able to ride. I've set it for late June because July, August and September are like our winter months (except that it is brutally hot). If you have a recommendation on a charger I'd appreciate the information. I'd also like to install pigtails. Where is the best place to route them on the Sport? Under seat could be the best but I hate drilling holes.

Thanks in advance.

i use the BMW charger, the small square grey one with 6 lights on it. this is a great maintainer for the battery and can be used on bikes with can bus but our scoots don't need that as the power sockets are from the battery via a fuse. i fitted the optional power socket under my seat, just a couple of screws hold on the r/h side panel and the moulding for the plug is there which can be punched out. the plug is tied up on the loom for this socket too.
question?? what are pigtails??

Pigtails are the two wires that connect the battery to the charger leads. I think I may have picked up that jargon in my HD days.

I use a Battery Tender Jr. and have the pigtail connected straight to the battery and routes between the front wheels (it's tucked well above all the moving parts). I can attach pics later if needed.

Can the plug be inserted into the auxiliary plug in the left glove box? Can someone show a picture of the "handlebar assembly"? To install in the "trunk" how are the wires connected to the battery?

The plug in the left hand glove box is bigger, its a car type cigarete lighter plug socket. The wiring is part of the standard loom, located next to the mounting point. Like i stated, just fit and plug in, takes 10minutes and is a handy extra plug hidden out of the way.

I wired the (fused) pigtail directly to the battery with the connector underneath the fairing out of the way (like davidh). In this way, if I need to jump the scooter from a external battery I know that the wiring will handle the amperage (the BMW plugs wiring should not be used to jump-start the scooter - it is too lightweight to handle the load).

The sockets on our scooys dont run through the canbus system so any charger is fine. The power socket lines are fused.
If that is the case can I just buy the Accessory plug for my Optimate and plug into the Accessory socket and charge through that?
I know the accessory socket is always live because I charge my Mobile (Cell) Phone on the Scoot and the USB socket I use has a light on it.
I have to remember to unplug it when leaving the scoot for a long while

Andy
