Battery Discharge?

i keep reading all these articles where folks are discharging their battery down below 5%.... everything i have ever been told is that this NOT something to do to keep the battery in its best life for charge cycles??? what is the statement put out by bmw on this and the charge cycles and life expectancy by constantly doing this??? thanks for all your input on this in advance

For daily use, keep the battery between 20% and 80% charged to extend lifespan. Only charge to 100% for long trips. Use lower amperage settings for less "stressful" charging ( heat kills battery health). Avoid letting the CE 04 sit with a low charge for long periods. So, before extended parking/storage, fully charge the battery...this is what the BMW service tech told me.

I'm sure the CE04 has State of Charge buffers to protect battery health. The Battery Management System (BMS) prevents overcharging and deep discharging.

i don't know that i can agree with the bms allowing deep discharging when 95% of articles owners write is saying they run battery down below 5% so they can squeeze every bit of mileage they can get??? there just is not any published info from bmw on this battery and its full specs and do's/dont's to owners/techs(that i can find online anyways)??? i think in reality if you are doing/driving normal street/highway mileage for around town you are going to see less than 20% a good part of the time, especially when you start out at 80%.... kinda like that 80 mile range BS number, even if you do not get on the throttle and are very conservative it will NEVER happen, which is why ALL want to start at 100%.....

Had my ce04 for 6 months and she never gets below 25% and let it charge close to 100% (whereI forget to go check). Started taking more interest in charging after hiring a few different electric cars whilst on trips away. I did this to test what I would like, dislike or any challenges. The polestar was great, but was delivered to me at airport with 90% charge and the Tesla was delivered with 100% charge. Now I’m sure you will find this interesting as I did some research and manual reading and found -
1. Polestar recommend not charging past 90% to lengthen the life of battery and provide the ability to set full charge levels in settings.
2. Tesla shows 100%, but in fact via software wizardry apparently/allegedly the car charges to the 90% range and software tells you 100% to make you feel good and not shorten your battery life.

Besides this, my scooter has been a hoot, great conversation starter and still gives me a smile.

Cheers from Australia.

have tried to call bmw north america and i cannot seem to get through to anyone with knowledge about this issue or anyone willing to help with the research :( does not give me the warm fuzzies on customer service......
my worry with this battery range is; i am 30 miles from the big metro downtown area which is gotten to by interstate speeds, with no charging at the half way point i am worried i might not make it back home??? boy that 240 mile range gasser is not being ruled out.....

Run mine in Dynamic all of the time (must be a physc thing for us males). Have had a few runs on freeway where you certainly notice the sudden decrease in range being indicated. But that’s whipping up to 130kph. My normal whip to office is 60Kph average and round trip of 26 kilometres, so I get 3 trips in before I recharge. Not too cold here, but when experimenting with heated seat and grips on, the range adjusts by a few k’s. Also notice if I toss ‘Eco’ mode on it re calibrates to a few more k’s, not much, but a few. Mind you ‘eco’ mode doesn’t excite my adventurous self image.

Long term I am interested to see if range slowly drops, which I will keep an eye on.

I've did a test last week I've run in eco mode city driving fully charge Tuesday morning on the friday night arriving home I had left 23% of battery for 28km estimate but I had done 120KM in four days, so I've could have done at least 130 KM or a bit more. I run mostly Dynamic because it to much fun leaving everybody behind when the light turn green. Since March 2023 I have 52.4kwh of regeneration so basically 8 full charges.
Enjoy the ride and be safe!

7500 miles in and I can count the number of times I have let my bike go under 9% on one hand. Each a result of an unplanned charger outage. Not because I’m worried about the battery, just because I don’t want to strand myself.

I use https://abetterrouteplanner.com/ for trip planning which applies me to specify my comfort level (16%). I also typically checkout the chargers on https://www.plugshare.com/
