I took a rare Saturday goofing-off ride on my C 400 GT. Usually I ride only on weekdays, avoiding the increased weekend traffic on back roads in my region, but the nice days are winding down around here, so I took advantage of the 70°F weather. Luckily, there were still a fair amount of "roads less traveled."

Here's where I went (clockwise):

And here are a couple of photos during breaks.

At a pull-off on the Taconic State Parkway:

And if anyone's really bored, here are some videos (1440 HD max resolution).

Which crash bar do you have? Do you think it would actually provide protection to the bike if it fell over?
The bars I have are described in the two pics https://billanddot.com/C400GT/#S-10 and https://billanddot.com/C400GT/#S-11 in my gallery, but to save you some time:

In the three or four weeks between the time I ordered my GT in July 2022 and actual delivery, I had the dealer get and install them. What the heck, I was spending a bunch of money anyway, and didn't know how complicated it would be to install them. (And then they swapped them over to my replacement '23 bike when it arrived last fall.)

Strangely, BMW does not make crash bars for the C 400 GT, but DOES make them for the C 400 X. (I'm talking about model years prior to the just-announced scoots, the ones with "coloured tape"!) I rode the X version on three Edelweiss tours, and Edelweiss equips them with BMW's bars. Here's what they look like:

Those may be fugly, but I'd guess that they do a better job than Wunderlich's version for the GT. Still, I do think that the Wunderlich offering for the GT would successfully save some plastic in, say, a parking lot tipover.

That's the sort of event that's happened to me on, I think, ALL my bikes over the last couple of decades, several times with 900-lb. baggers with beefy crashbars. I'm hoping that the bars on my GT do the same, but, knock on wood, I haven't put them to the test yet, so I don't really know the answer to your question. And I haven't seen any pics, read any discussions, of any other C 400 GT owner with those (or any other) bars.

Thanks for the details! I like the looks of the Winderlich. I’ve mostly had some type of crash bars on all my street and touring bikes over the years. They do help in those nasty parking lots. The C 400 GT ones look very minimal, but I agree that they probably help in those parked or slow speed tipovers. They are $100 less on the German site, but it seems they will ship anywhere but USA.

That is a good find on Wunderlich German shipping to the USA, and selling for a lower price! That's new (the shipping); I tried when I purchased the bike and shipping to the USA was not allowed. Thank you for pointing that out. It might be worth posting that somewhere on the home page.

I think you may have read that too quickly, if I understand the posts by you and @StrangeCloud: he said "they will ship anywhere but USA."
