C400GT - Should I sacrifice the guarantee?

Hello, brand new C400GT.

I’ve already done 650km with it, I have to do it’s first service at 1000km, so it’s close.

I was thinking:

The closest Motorrad dealer is 5.30 hours (drive and ferry since I live on an island) away from me. So I have to invest a whole day to go and come back, and also take the ferry and petrol cost.

My thought is that I could take it to my local official Honda dealer/service, which is a 30 minute drive. I know that I lose the guarantee and that it’s a risk, but if you calculate the total cost of having to go to the official dealership at 1000km and then every 10.000km, I think it exceeds the cost of damage in case something happens, without the guarantee (unless something very serious).
What’s your opinion?

I just had my first service done. Took about 1.5 hours. If I were you I would make a day trip out of it and go to the dealer. I have owned a lot of bikes and most all required some warranty work at some point. Wouldn’t want to lose that warranty.

I'm in agreement with @StrangeCloud, but you may be okay going to the Honda dealer (depending on laws in Greece).

I wrote a lengthy answer in your other thread, with this post:

Thanks for your reply.
I understand that having such an experience you can’t advise me otherwise, haha.
Thing is, that if some damage happens, I know I’ll have to pay for it.
But, having to travel for a total of 11-12 hours, and the cost of it, (200-300 euros since I have to stay overnight) might not be worth it.
Let’s say something happens, apart from having to change the motor, what would be so costly? I mean, having to pay a 500 euro damage is much better than having to pay 200 anyways, and invest a day of your life. Am I wrong with that?

I think you'll be fine. Well, I certainly hope so.

In any case, you will have saved a significant amount of your time and money by eliminating that very large chunk of travel.

Good luck to you.

The problem is:

Is it possible to turn off the Service light and message?

I saw this video:

And then I called the local Honda dealer that also does services for any motorbike and told me that it won’t be possible to turn it off for him.

I've read a fair number of posts here from folks who've used a Motoscan, but I personally don't own one, have never used one, etc. So you'll have to search here for such posts -- try searching for Motoscan -- and see what you can learn. And wait for someone who has done this on a C400 to answer you. I'm sure it can be done.

Good luck.

I use the Motoscan and the same dongle that the guy in the video is holding up to the camera, and it works perfectly to reset the service message on both my 2016 C650 Sport as well as my 2007 F800ST. That is in addition to the other nifty features Motoscan offers, at a very reasonable cost as well. I can't say for sure that they added the C400 scooter to the supported models, but I think most probably they have.

I sent them an email to ask. Will see.
Although, I’m considering sending the bike (with a transportation company), will cost 300 euros to send it and bring it back, but will still keep the guarantee and I won’t have to travel for so much time.
