C650gt variator removal tool??

I thought I would give an update. I installed the Malossi variator and the 24g rollers that came with it just to see how it would perform. The initial rattling was there during the first 5 miles or so.
the rpms increased about 1500 baseline through all lower and midrange speeds.
this increased acceleration of course but not what I was looking for overall.
I had ordered the Tech Pulley Flying Gliders II in 26g and waiting on them from Germany I kept the 24g in. The Tech Pulley ( Dr Pulleys German cousin)once installed increased the baseline rpms @ 1000 to around 4000 rpms at medium speeds. This was acceptable increase for quickness and didn’t seem to strain the engine. I will expect a decrease in fuel mileage for stop and go traffic.
I wish the initial Rattle wasn’t there but everything else seems ok. Thanks again for all of your advice and help.
 
Interesting topic re: Variators. Does anyone know where I can read up on the effects for changing rollers, clutch springs, variators, etc. I'm primarily interested in making my GT more relaxed at Interstate speeds (65-75mph). I'm new to the BMW, having had Burgman 650s for the past 10 years.
 
It doesnt do too bad at 70, not strained at all. What year are you getting? If its post 2016 I would probably just drive it for a while before you start making mods. Compared to my Silverwing, its more stable and suited to highway speeds. Compared to my R1200RT, probably not so much.

2019 model.
This is the first time i've bought a bike sight unseen. But there just were not any to test ride within 300-400 miles!
A dealer about 90 miles away had 3 in their warehouse, still in crates. But I could not get them to put one together for a test ride unless I was ready to buy it.
 
I was in the same boat, ended up driving about 4 hours to get a 2019 in blue. I also bought it site unseen and didnt even get a good ride on it till I got home. But it is a hoot to drive.

I think it does well at 70. They updated the variator in 2016 so I wouldnt mess with it. I never rode the big burgy, but did have a Silverwing. It does better on the highway than that bike, more planted. But the engine noise and vibration is more pronounced. From what I read, that was engineered in. 270 degree motor vs 360 for the Swing.

Well, how 'bout that! Mine is the blue as well. :cool: There is no going back to the Burg at this point. These things just take too much money. So, I'm gonna love it! Especially if it takes the highway bumps better and corners better. The Burg front end doesn't plant well in corners, and always felt like the weight was on the rear. From what I gather, the BMW is much sportier/balanced in handling, and is better with the bumps. The Burg's CVT is electronically controlled, not centrifugally controlled, and that is probably why it is unequaled with its low revving at cruise. Nothing is perfect, I guess.
