CAM Chain Tensioner...AGAIN

I have a 2014 C650GT. The original CAM Chain tensioner went bad and was replaced under recall at around 3K miles. Now, after putting on about 3K miles the CAM chain noise is returning.

Has anyone out there experienced the same issue?

I have! I own the 2012 c600 Sport which started making that noise around 14000 miles, I changed it myself (as I couldn't get it done under recall here in the UK it seems) and around 3000 miles later it's back. 😬
However as soon as the bike gets warm it's gone for the rest of the day and I don't get it every day either!

I have noticed that the rattle goes away after the engine warms up.... but not all the time.
I've spoken with BMW Customer Service about it. My option is to get a diagnosis at the dealer and pay for repair then present my argument for compensation to BMW for a "goodwill" payment.

In very cold weather when I first start out the scooter makes some HORRIBLE sounding noises and there is a lot of vibration. This goes away once it warms up. I don't think it has anything to do with the cam chain tensioner, though... I suspect it is in the CVT itself and once everything is warmed up it operates normally again. It is just very unnerving when you first start out on a cold morning. I just take it easy for the first few miles until everything is warmed up to proper operating temperature.

My hypothesis is that in the very cold weather, the CVT belt isn't as "sticky" as it is when it is warm. Also, the metal pulleys "shrink" when cold and expand when warm. What this implies to me is that the godawful noise and vibration is caused by the ice cold CVT belt slipping on the pulleys until they both warm up and engage properly.
 
I think the belt might take a slight "set" from the crunch of the pulleys while not moving. When you start the engine this would possible make more noise and go away as the belt warms up. I have seen this on industrial variable drives I have worked on. Of course I haven't heard the noise in question and could be totally wrong. It's always difficult to trouble shoot over the internet.

I know the sound your talking about, almost like it's some animal but it's not it. This is the timing chain tensioner sound when it goes bad in the attached link (note when on the bike it's not as loud because of the panels still being on the bike and your helmet) I replaced my tensioner myself which solved it for a few thousand miles.

My Silverwing made a racket when it was winter temperatures until it warmed up . I started turning the shed heater on to warm the bike before I went for a ride in the winter.
 
My 12 GT makes the same sound when cold. A few months back the 12,000 was done and clutch dust blown out and no noise. Now the noise is slowly coming back with each cold start. Like Jamie stated it could be cold belts that have set into a position and have to warm-up.
I just go on easy at first, does not seem to do anything else or do it all the time, just let it be.
