Carpuride BMW version work on C400GT?

I see that Carpuride has a BMW version of their CarPlay unit. Does anyone know if the BMW mount that is mounted on the bike able to be used or do they have one for a C400GT so you can use the wonder wheel?

I don't know.

I'm a newbie to this CarPlay world myself, not an expert at all, but I've done some research that you may find useful, anyway.

1) Cheap System:

To dip my toes into the realm of CarPlay (which I don't even have in my car), I bought a cheap unit from Aoocci: https://aoocci.com/products/c6-pro-motorcycle-dash-cam?variant=42251602198616 . I installed this on my Royal Enfield Meteor 350:





With a coupon -- and there are coupons for all of these systems, present in YouTube descriptions or if you get on their mailing lists -- I spent $170 (including shipping).

In addition to checking out CarPlay, I wanted TPMS sensors. For other bikes -- including my C 400 GT -- I've purchased FOBO sensors, and they're about $100 all by themselves.

(As it turns out, I've compared the sensors that came with the C6 against the FOBO sensors and some digital gauges I have, and they're very accurate. However, the C6 is very disappointing in this respect, once on the move, i.e., after a pre-ride check in the garage: the display shows tire pressure in an extremely minuscule font, a real eye test. The designers who worked on that particular display ought to be fired, IMO.)

2) Carpuride:

The somewhat BMW-compatible system doesn't look as if that compatibility has anything to do with the Wonder Wheel.

From my understanding, all that means is that if you have the "satnav prep" on a Beemer, the unit gets its power from that BMW mount, and gets to be locked in place with that unit's key.

I base this on the info at https://carpuride.com/products/carpuride-w702b-motorcycle-stereo-with-navigation-bracket . Further, regarding the two videos on that page ...

... and ...

... neither one mentions the Wonder Wheel (I used YT's auto-translate for the German one). Again, both of those touch on the satnav prep for power and locking, but that's it.

3) Chigee:

Moving (way) up the ladder in terms of expense, there's Chigee's AIO-5, for instance: https://www.chigee.com/products/aio5-play-for-bmw , which states:

It also features native integration with real-time engine data, WonderWheel control, tire pressure monitoring, and anti-theft protection for a smarter, safer ride.

And then it goes on to say:

Check compatibility with your BMW at here

Doing that takes you to https://www.chigee.com/pages/aio5-play-bmw-compatibility . Here's a partial screen grab of that chart, and I've circled the relevant cells:



As you can see (or so it looks like to me), for the C 400 GT you need to buy an additional product, https://www.chigee.com/search?q=CGRC+CAN&type=product ($99), or maybe you can get away with just having the dealer set some option (or do it yourself, if you have one of those firmware-updating devices).

That last bit isn't at all clear to me but, as I say, I'm new to all this.

4) Satnav Prep:

In the post https://www.bmw-scooters.com/threads/preparation-for-gps.3535/ , @B0BUK81 asked just today whether that satnav prep mounting device can be added to the C 400 scooters.

I have no idea about that, either. If it can, that would solve the power and locking option, I guess. My guess is that the C 400 bikes are the red-headed step-children in Beemerdom, and that you can't do that. But that's only a guess on my part, and I could be wrong; in my three years on the forum, I don't recall reading about anyone's doing this.

I’m also new to this and definitely not an expert and still playing about with my set up. I’ve also seen the new version here:

From what I can see, if you have the satnav prep the 702 BS should fit in to that and the wonder wheel should be able to be used to navigate the system.
I’ve been using a slightly older version of the Carpuride for a few weeks and it works fine. Mine came with a separate control set that fitted to the handlebars but I didn’t get on with the controller so didn’t use it, and it was taking up extra real estate so am now exploring this version.

I don’t have the preparation for navigation set up but am looking in to this. I think it might be possible to add it but trying to find what it’s called or the part number isn’t easy. I’ve just gone back to the dealer to see if it can be done, cost, etc.

It's my understanding that the "satnav prep" includes not only some relevant firmware in the ECU (or some other chip) but -- more importantly here -- a physical cradle, with strategically-placed electrical pins and a locking mechanism.

Take a look at the two videos in post 3 here. In fact, the "cover" image in that second video is a picture of what I'm talking about.

In short, I believe that that hardware piece is what the purchasers of the Carpuride are all talking about, when satnav prep comes up.

And I also don't know whether that big hardware mount gizmo can be retrofitted on our C 400 scooters. I was just looking through the parts for the C 400 GT at Max BMW's site, https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/partsfiche.aspx ; see this screen grab:



If you click on that entry (red arrow above), and scroll almost to the bottom, you'll come across the "GPS PREPARATIONS" diagram:



Those diagrams include both stock parts that come standard, as well as optional parts (such as different size windscreens, luggage rack, top case, alarm systems, etc.)

The red arrow shows that I've scrolled almost to the bottom of that page, the green circle shows the diagram to click on (and what the big hardware mount looks like), and the orange circle shows the part: BMW part # 77 52 9 898 252.

It also says "PREINSTALLED" (in red, in the original, i.e., I didn't add that color). This leads me to believe that this was a factory-installed option, i.e., specified at the time of placing a bike order.

In looking at the '25 model at https://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/en/models/urban_mobility/c400gt.html , it does not appear to be an option that can be ordered.

On the other hand, the Premium Package (which I ordered years back) includes, among other things, something called "Connectivity Pro." That's listed as "Navigation and Communication Options" ...



... but clicking on the information icon (the "i") is worlthless, it does not add any explanatory text:



Of course, I would imagine that anything that the factory could have installed over the years could later be installed by a dealer, given that the parts are available for purchase (which they are, at least at Max, and probably elsewhere), a competent and willing tech department ... and enough money.

I hope this helps clarify what "satnav prep" encompasses.

I think I may need to get the mount from Ali express and either put my phone like you did. Or use the smaller 502 or I won’t be able to see the bike TFT screen. My just put the Quad Lock mirror mount and go from there using phone.

For the record, I am very pleased with the behind-the-windscreen mount I got on AliExpress ... along with my decision to ditch one of its parts, and drill a hole and add a RAM ball. This is for very occasional -- maybe two or three times a year -- use of that for a phone mount.

On the other hand, I suppose that my setup could be used to mount a CarPlay device, too, if use of the Wonder Wheel isn't important, i.e., never mind all this satnav prep consideration. My phone is about 5" wide -- same as the smaller versions of a lot of the CarPlay devices -- even though the perspective of this pic makes it look huge:



In any event, I probably won't be buying a second CarPlay device for the C 400.

As I noted, part of the reason for my getting the Aoocci C6 was that I also wanted TPMS sensors for the Meteor, so I thought I'd take care of that, along with checking out CarPlay (which, by the way, I find very nice, in terms of some experimentation with its showing Google Maps on the Meteor).

But I already have a FOBO sensor on the rear wheel of my C 400 GT. (User @byee noted in another thread a few months ago that he has mounted both external sensors that came with a CarPlay device that he bought on his C 400 GT, but the tolerances -- the clearance vis-a-vis the front brake caliper -- are too minuscule for my comfort level, so I won't be doing that.

Thus, given that I hardly ever use any kind of GPS, and that I have a fancy Peak Design case and anti-vibration mount, I'll just stick with what I have, regarding the scooter.
