Just got a call from BMW dealer where my 2017 is getting first service (600 ml). Apparently, chain tension is out of allowable range and they need to order and replace some part to fix it. That'll be 150 euro in addition to 200 euro service (with my own oil and no tax). Not something warranty would cover as It's just a part of normal service, they say. BMWs are expensive, even scooters

That sounds like a warranty item to me, especially with only 600 miles.

Changing out the "chain kit" is done every 24K miles (40K km) -- it shouldn't be out of wack in the first 600 miles.

All right, I will ask again. The scooter is still at the dealer; should be finished today. It's tricky here in Germany with the warranty for US specs vehicles. Thank you.

BMW has been getting very bad marks on customer service and quality of product, concerning the G310R/GS model that I also own. Too many problems, not enough action by BMW, parts not available for too long, and so on. Very bad for BMW reputation, with people swapping over to Japanese products after being fed up.

My '13 GT shares the garage with my K1100LT so it doesn't get all that much mileage for its age. At 12,200 miles the chain tension hasn't changed much. Still still in spec. I ride pretty hard on the GT, I've replaced those little warning scrapers on the center stand a couple of times now. I keep the rear tire about 40-42 and the monoshock set for maximum lift. Makes for better handling in the twisties.
