Stopped the bike for a few minutes and the check engine light came on then it wouldn’t turn over!! I’m stuck in the wilderness…. I’ll disconnect the battery and see if I can reset the light. What is going on? Anyone had this problem before?

Crisis averted!! It was the kickstand switch plug.... had a nice ride over the last weekend and it included a rough section of road going through the mountians that back Honolulu. Must have gotten loose and came out. Thanks in advance for any other suggestions.

Thanks for your feedback, it's good to know!

You can have the same kind of problem with the Flexcase opening sensor.

To avoid these unpredictable and random failures, BMW recommends checking all the starting inhibitors at every service. Unfortunately, I don't know of any dealers who check this at service intervals.

I've never owned a BMW 600/650, but on the C 400 GT if the flexcase is down (or the switch broken or disconnected) you get a large message:

This sort of thing isn't displayed on the now-defunct 600/650 scooters?

By the way, I broke that switch on my '22 C 400 GT when doing some wiring that required my taking the underseat storage tub completely out. Before I could get around to stopping at my local dealer, I discovered that you could bypass that problem by sticking a paperclip in the two holes in the female receiving connector for that switch.

Just thought I'd point out this stuff, in case it has relevance for 600/650 owners.

On my C650, if I forget the flexcase is open (the one that you can down onto the rear wheel when the bike is parked for additional storage, like a second full-face helmet) I do receive a warning message and the bike won't start - actually it's a tiny drawing/icon of an open flexcase in the dashboard. I don't know that something similar appears for a side- or center stand issue.
