Has anyone undertaken this job?

I have what can best be described as a ringing sound on initial take off. Almost like the sound you get if you run your finger around the rim of a glass if that makes sense?

I think it's related to the clutch shoes being glazed.

I've read you can hold on the brakes and rev the engine briefly to deglaze them, but that sounds a bit brut force to me. Has anyone had experience with this method?

Also how big of a job is it to access the shoes and do it "properly"?

Thanks in advance!

My experience, which mirrors what others have reported, is that a glazed clutch is typically caused by long highway rides and is easily de-glazed by indeed revving up the engine while holding the brake firmly for say around 2-3 seconds. Do that twice in succession and voila. I have done many 250-mile highway trips and I've also applied this 'brute force' method enough to know it really works and have not experienced any negative effects.

What I don't recognize are your symptoms: ringing sound. Mine just develops a shudder on take-off. Once de-glazed that becomes nice and smooth again.

Taking apart the whole assembly to I suppose sand off the surfaces of the shoes every time the clutch glazes over is a job I shudder to think of having to do 👁️🏍️🛠️
