Fuel Warning Question

When my fuel warning light comes on the gauge starts counting UP in miles rather than counting DOWN to empty. That’s very strange.

Does anyone know offhand how many miles (roughly) I will I be able to go before I run out of fuel? Obviously it depends on how fast that engine is spinning, but in general. Anyone have to take the walk of shame?

Thanks!

About 45 miles has always been my guess, based on what the manual says about how much fuel is left when the light comes on (3 liters, or 3.2 quarts). Since I average about 54 MPG, that comes out to approx 45 miles.
That said, I suspect BMW, as other (car, motorcycle) manufacturers deliberately underestimate the amount of fuel left, or range remaining, to save you from yourself having to push-walk the bike or having to call roadside assistance. Normally, when I fill up after the light has come on maybe 15 miles ago, the tank will take more than it 'should' based on BMW's claim of how much should be left in the tank. If all that makes sense!

~80km on my Sport.
The rider manual actually has the number you seek.
It is not super-precise as you may run out sooner if going on a fast highway up a slope, as happened to me once (73km).
I reckon in leisurely straight ride it may last up to a 100km if you never stop and go at easy cruise only.
