GPS mounts

Doggone it you guys. Now that farkling on this thing is becoming so easy that even I can do it, I guess my current GPS (the one folded up and stored in the front left bin ) is going to have to be retired and replaced.

They probably feel that way about me at work, too. Old, wrinkled, marks of one sort or another all over the place, and kinda falling apart. But that old paper "GPS" saved me more than once during its heyday.

The biggest problem I have with that "paper GPS" is that it is really easy to pick out where you WANT to be. Finding out where you ARE, however...

Yes knowing where you actually are can be a drag, but there also is the advantage of the "overview mode" on the paper gps.

Actually I was looking for an old big book one I have some where a few days ago with no luck finding it, wanted to put it under the saddle for random going and easy hints on viable small roads/paths as a complement.

Ha....True enough. I do get "lost" often and every once in awhile I will pull over and check out my location on my phone.

No, the old GPS is not as convenient as the new fangled ones that use that electricity stuff. But I still like taking it into a restaurant for coffee early in the am and dreaming up the direction and potential destination for that day's (or weekend's) adventure.

I also prefer a real newspaper to my iPad, too. Lost in the old school, I guess.

When I bought my scooter it came with an extra plastic piece that covers the center of the handlebars. I made an aluminum bracket and mounted the clip that came with my Magellan Roadmate. The GPS fits nicely in the center of the handlebars raked back at the same angle as the instrument panel. I was going to add an American style 12V socket to the bike but discovered the GPS cord was thin enough that I could plug it into the socket in the left cubby and still shut the lid. If I get a newer GPS for the scoot I can always make a new bracket to hold it. It worked out well, I've still got the original cover with the BMW logo untouched.

First,
Big Kudoz TN_Sooner who mentioned the buying of a Bmw adapter cable, after a while I got hold of one and including a pic with the part number for future reference.

The same approach as some with a small difference finding out when trying my spare Burgman 650 2007 oil reservoir cover from MCL with 1" ball it worked just fine on my new Bmw.

So used one of these that I had left over since 2007.

I take absolutely no responsibility for fit but worked out just fine for me, the one for 650! the 400 one is smaller.

What was the OEM connector connected to before I undress the handlebar covers to connect my new plug? What did it work?
