Key Fob question

I was opening the key fob (push silver button, key pops out of side of fob, insert coin/screwdriver in crack under the key cutout, and carefully pry the two sides open.). I did that and I saw a small part fall off the positive side (I think). It was in the grass area and I can’t find it.
Why am I concerned? The positive side has just plastic, no metal contact visible.

I get a This thong needs service notice when I try to start it up after storage since October.

Should I spend more time looking for a phantom part? Or should I just get a new part from BMW.

1) I don't know the answer to your question, regarding any missing piece, but have you tried replacing the battery in the fob?

2) Does the bike itself (the thing, not the thong) need servicing? That is, the bike itself has a service reminder built-in, reset when the dealer performs the break-in and subsequent regular services. Do you do your own oil changes, etc.? How many miles on the bike? Did you purchase the bike new, or from a previous owner?

3) I don't know exactly, but I seem to recall reading that a replacement fob will run hundreds of dollars.

I knew that the fobs were expensive, and I wanted to help guard against breakage (with the rubbery-like covering). And I got it in red, so it would be easier to locate, if I dropped it somewhere or misplaced it (although I also have an Apple AirTag attached to my key ring now).

I can't remember the exact amount but I think it was a little over $450.00 to get a second key fob. I was going to order a spare but then backed out.

458.00 to be exact. How do I know? I left my pocket open, my key fell out, while riding, and then was not to be found. Lucky for me is that I have Tile with replacement protection, so the cost is covered by them. Just picked it up today.

You are lucky. I hope I don't loose mine. I never lost one of the keys for my Indian cycles but they were only a cuple hundred to replace.
