Loose lock cylinder

I went out to my scooter this morning, and the lock cylinder was laying on the street. I can still operate the scooter with difficulty, but would like to know what is wrong and how to fix it.

I had the same thing happen on my 2016 C650 GT. I believe it is a known issue, probably due to the multi function movement of ignition, steering lock, fuel cap and seat release. Wear allows the barrel to come out. I solved it by replacing the complete unit. It's an easy job but the parts are about £150 and you will need to order the parts with your vin number to ensure that your key fits.

The ignition cylinder and key on my 2020 C650GT popped out while I was riding on the highway, and I didn't even realize it until I got home. I was able to turn off the bike by rotating the internals of the hole with a screwdriver, but of course there was no way to start the bike again. A replacement cylinder took FOUR WEEKS to arrive from BMW Germany and did not include a replacement key. So now I'm using my original spare key and I've ordered a very expensive new spare.
The shop says they've never heard of a BMW ignition cylinder popping out like mine did, so I'm interested to see that this has indeed happened to other riders.
