Malossi Variator with rollers 22g and 24g

Hello everyone,

I replaced the original variator with a Malossi (Multivar 2000) because I couldn't find the original rollers and sliders.
Was it worth it? When should someone change the variator?
Also, the multivar 2000 came with 22g rollers, which after installation, the scooter has high engine revs and different handling.
What's the weight of the original rollers on the original variator?
How much weight should I put on the rollers?

I think the original rollers are over 40g. I just did this exercise along with the Malossi Clutch Spring, which is disappointing.
I don't mind the increased performance and higher fuel consumption, which are natural trade-offs, but the Malossi clutch spring is now causing issues of jerking and slipping on engagement.

Finally, I think we shouldn't change with aftermarket, but only with factory parts.
 
The original drive uses torque rpm.

The Malossi variator (racing type) exploits the rpm of the best available power. The opening slopes are radically different, and use much lighter weights (which is perfectly normal).

The 22 grams are best reserved for racing over mountain passes. Some users in France have preferred to go up to 26 grams for sporty but less exclusive use.
You can also mix and match, for example, 3*22 and 3*24 (mounted one on top of the other).

In Europe, Malossi is an expert in CVT racing. Don't be in any doubt about what he has to offer!
 
From my point of view, many aftermarket variators have too crazy high revs. This can lead to excessive wear and fuel consumption, also increased heat buildup.
The OEM rollers are 43g for 2016+models.
Prior models had inferior variator which should be replaced. I am enjoying Dr.Pulley’s 42g sliding rollers which are excellent. I am thinking of getting them of 43g at next replacement so I feel more twin pulse and more top speed but I really do not need top speed, prefer more roll-on in the city and mountain twisties.
With malossi you definitely want heavier rollers but I not know how far you accept the revs and fuel consumption vs performance benefits.
 
Also the “racing” word I read as follows -
“lose the race and you lose your scooter”
then that makes crazy revs justifiable.
This does not apply to me though, so I take heavier rollers all the time. Each 1g of 8 rollers adds 8g total rotating mass, decreasing RPMs by about 200. With J.Costa that has 16 rollers, every 0.5g lighter rollers increase RPMs by 200. They consider 7000rpms norm to start going even 40kmh, I do not. 5000 is good for me
 
Finally, the weight of the rollers, and the angle of the variator bell define how fast your gearing ratio will change. If it changes too slowly because you have very light rollers, then your ratio is not cohesive to the engine torque exhibited, it does not translate to velocity (horsepower, work) and you are “stuck in 1st gear” with 7000rpms doing nothing for your progress on the road. Same as you trying to speed on your bike in first gear, pedaling crazily.
Sometimes, when the engine torque allows, you may even go to higher weight rollers than stock, install a stronger malossi spring and gain tremendous acceleration off the stop but at cost of reduced top speed and increased belt wear.
