Aside from the hassle factor. Does the warranty cover transport expenses like this when the distance is so far? Like your transport costs or even having a company transport it back to you?

Aside from the hassle factor. Does the warranty cover transport expenses like this when the distance is so far? Like your transport costs or even having a company transport it back to you?

Just heard back from Country Rode Motorwerks. BMW will cover the ENTIRE repair cost (parts and labor) including those items normally considered "Wear Items" so all I have to do is figure out how to get it back. Looks like New York State will be unseasonably warm most of next week so I'm looking to get a flight up there so I can ride it back. I'll keep you all posted! I miss "Snoopy" and will be happy to get him back.

Glad to hear you didn't get chumped on a few parts in this context. That's one + for BMW. I think you'll also have a new seat to add so it will seem like a new bike.

Booked a flight out of JFK to Rochester on Tuesday. Flight arrives in Rochester at 2:16 PM. About a half an hour from the airport to the dealership. I figure I'll ride till it gets dark, overnight somewhere and get home Wednesday. So excited!! If I get home early enough on Wednesday I can swap out the saddle, too!

BMW would put you up in a hotel at the time of the incident back in september and I think they would have covered a few other expenses like food. Maybe you can get them to cover it for the return trip (I know you did not take advantage in september)

Well, today's the day! Flight leaves JFK at 12:59. Little over an hour and fifteen minutes later I'll be landing in Rochester, NY and looking for a taxi to take me over to Country Rode Motorwerks in Fairport. Since I'm limiting myself to "Carry On" baggage only I won't have my laptop, and this site doesn't seem to like mobile browsers so I probably won't be able to make any updates till I'm back home tomorrow. So excited!

It felt "odd" getting back on Snoopy after riding the K1200LT exclusively for the past two months. After a few miles, though, we were fully reacquainted. What weird weather we're having! 70 degrees in Rochester, NY when the plane landed. By the time I pulled into Binghamton, NY for the night the temperatures were in the high forties! On this morning's ride I started out in the low forties and as I rode through the mountains of Pennsylvania the temperature kept fluctuating between mid-forties to low fifties. I discovered that the heated grips on "Auto" shut off when the external temperature is fifty or more, and comes back on in the forties.
Anyway, once out of the Pocono mountains the temperature stabilized in the mid to high sixties. Made it home just a little past noon today and just finished installing the Corbin saddle. Odd... the stock seat is held on with six bolts, but the Corbin is only held on with four. Four seems to be enough though. The only thing I miss is the area where I can attach the tool roll to keep it out of the way. Oh well. Uploading photos now to the gallery.

Another mystery solved. Bay area doesn't get that cold very often. I'm guessing the same with the auto for the seat.

I think I read that the heat level of the grips is determined by ambient air temp and speed. I've been using mine a bit in the last few days. Mornings are in the low 40s or high 30s. Anyway it's good to hear that Snoopy is home again. Here's hoping you get to trusting him soon. I think you pretty much had a one off type of failure, I haven't heard of that kind anywhere else.

Glad all went well the Corbin looks really good. Carbon pads also help to increase speed in corners due to lower drag. BTW I have a small house overlooking Jamie's bridge I will sell for a good price.

Someone on the Google+ site complained of a rear-wheel bearing failure. Fortunately for him, his dealer discovered it BEFORE it left him stranded on the side of the road. WTF is it with BMW and rear-wheel bearings over the past decade? You'd think by now they'd know what was required!

You mean what BMW agreed to reimburse him? No idea... didn't even ask. All I cared about was MY cost.

Ha, yeah, I agree with just being concerned about your out of pocket. I would not have thought to ask, but it would be interesting to know. Then again, as we all know, manufacturer warranty reimbursement vs. retail repair costs are hugely different. So....
