Hi BMW Enthusiasts;
Bought my first BMW and next month will have the first complimentary 6-month, 600 mile maintenance inspection.
I've put 250 miles on it and have experienced backfiring on deceleration. I'm not knowledgeable on technical matters, so I'm hoping someone here can tell me exactly what to say to the technician (besides the obvious). I'm trying to avoid someone telling me,... "it's ok, it's a common issue,...see what happens in another 6 months or so"....How do I respond if they try to dismiss it?

I don't believe mine has ever backfired. I don't think this is normal. And I have not read that others are having this issue. There coud be a lot of reasons for a bike to backfire but I would think the most likely cause would be either a small exhaust leak or the idle is not set correctly. I think BMW has a pretty good diagnositic program tool, so if they hook that up they may see some code that leads right to the problem. Good Luck. If you have a good dealer there should be no issue.
