I looked at all the new 2014 models of TWIN Maxi-scooters available here in the U.S. Here they are, with prices and weights...

1.) $10,999 SUZUKI Burgman 650 605 LBS
2.) $9,990 BMW C650GT 575 LBS
3.) $9,699 KYMCO MyRoad 700 618 LBS
4.) $9,590 BMW C600Sport 549 LBS
5.) $9,270 HONDA Silverwing 600 550 LBS

First, the old, hefty Big Burger is $1,000 MORE than a C650GT? Even accounting for different tastes and usages, that's a KILLER.
Advantage: BMW

Next, the porky KYMCO Imitation Burger is just $300 LESS than a C650GT!!! Are they MENTAL??? For THAT Toad??? D.O.A.
Advantage: BMW

Finally, the ANCIENT, wallowing slug-like Honda is only $700 less than the C650GT and $300 less than the C600Sport? And weighs the SAME as the C600Sport??

AND, even if you WERE interested in dropping 10K on one of those Japanese/Taiwanese Scoots...there are NO DEMOS to RIDE.
No WONDER BMW is selling them like HOTCAKES here. They don't really have any competition.

When the C class scooters were first announced the biggest negative buzz was the high price for a "scooter." I don't recall price being that much of a deal in reviews about the other maxi scooters. It appears that a BMW means expensive - even if it is a relative bargain. Go figure.
 
Yeah, the stink people made about the pricing was funny to me.

I think a lot of people think $9k-$10k means "motorcycle" not a scooter. Many people are unable to get their heads around the maxi-scoot concept. The only thing that makes the BMW a scooter is the fact it has a CVT. It will smoke many cruisers and keep up with sport bikes. While it doesn't have the ignorant off the line acceleration of a crotch rocket, it is a bit of a stretch to think they are mere scooters in the traditional sense.

BMW has the brand cache going for it, so the others will need to drop their price or BMW severly under priced the C series. My hope is that some of the other premium brands will introduce something similar or start giving more serious though to auto/semi auto bikes in their line ups. For me, I didn't want to fiddle aroudn with a clutch for urban commuting, but I also wanted a scoot that was aesthetically pleasing/sporty. the BMW was the only one that met my requirements. I would have considered the TMax, but a Yamaha ain't a BMW.

That would be the Integra 750, at about the same power as the BMW's, over 70 mpg (!!!), a real Dual Clutch Automatic Transmission and about $1,000 less, if pricing here reflects Europe...

Interesting! Maybe a new Tmax 700 with DCT by then, based-upon the MT-7 motor???

I was at the finger lakes rally also but i did not see another scooter there. I was told of a black one on the sight, i guess that was you.
Maybe next year we shall meet.
I also have not seen any others on the road.

They must be selling ok since BMW was only willing to offer $250 incentive on the 650 vs $1000 on the 600. I've never seen another in the flesh here in Chicago other than my co-workers c600. I know of someone who bought a 650 same time I bought mine.

I get a lot of stares and inquires about mine on the road though. I don't think BMW is doing a good enough job marketing it based on the interest I generate just from riding.

No, I rode my K1200LT to the rally. But I saw a bronze metallic C650GT parked behind the main building almost every day. Yours?

I just got back from the Suzuki dealer and asked about the Burgman Executive and it is $500 less than the BMW C650 GT here in Canada
