Over intrusive traction control almost caused me to drop my scooter!!!

They obviously haven't refined it as much on the scooters as they have on the GS. My brother has a new GS and swears it would be virtually un-rideable without traction control. It has different modes on the GS though so you can make it more or less intrusive.
 
There is a calibration mode for the ASC, first I've seen on any BMW model with ASC.
The manual explains how, why, when.
I have a new C650 sport and don't have an issue with the ASC, maybe the OP just needs to perform the calibration.

Before I forget, I picked up a new C650 on Wednesday 7-20, so far so good.
A lot of fun to ride, fastest color - orange, I'm always in the right gear.
 
.... the 120 degree crank cancelled all of the primary and secondary harmonics, and the counterbalancer cancelled out the rocking couple. Unfortunately, though the inline 4 had no rocking couple, it had plenty of secondary harmonics (the high-frequency "tingle" typical of an inline 4)...

Huh? A couple not allowed to rock to a harmonica while getting all tingly doing a line dance? I dunno, maybe I missed something somewhere:D
 
My eyebrow immediately raised when I noted that there are only TWO items outlined in the Riders Manual Troubleshooting section for my 2016 C650GT.

The first troubleshooting item is for a dead motor.

The second item is for ASC.

Hmmm.

My stability control issues only started after I changed new tires / sensors. I performed the ASC CAL and still had problems leaving a traffic light with very moderate throttle.

I've put enough miles to scuff in the new rear tire, Check.

My rear tire was three (3) pounds PSI low, so I added air using a digital gauge that can display fractional pressure in BAR. (It won't return fractional pressure in PSI, sadly.)

My problem appears to be solved after topping up the rear tire. Cheers
 
I was at a stop sign stopped, made a 90 degree right hand turn over some loose gravel and the traction control completely cut the power for about a half second. I had to stab my leg hard on the pavement to stop the bike from dropping. The thing about is that I wasn't giving the bike too much throttle. If I had the traction control off, the rear tire would have slipped a fraction of an inch and that would have been it, there would have been no loss of power and no need to save the bike.

In certain situations, the traction control seems more dangerous than if the tire were allowed to slip for a half an inch. There were plenty of times where I'm not giving it too much gas and the power cuts off because the wheel slipped for a millimeter. The subsequent loss in power because of traction control intervention, is far more dangerous than a wheel slipping for a millimeter in low speed situations.

I'm looking to see where the fuse is for the traction control so I can pull it. I've owned 600cc, 750cc and 1000cc sportbikes (just got rid of a 2005 GSX-R1000) and none of them had traction control. I think I'm OK disabling the traction control on this scooter. The traction control as way to intrusive on my C650 Sport. There were times when I thought that the car that I merged in front of, would hit me from behind because the traction control doesn't allow not even a micrometer of slippage and cut the power. It isn't a good feeling expecting power and not getting anything while merging.
Here is a procedure for calibrating the ASC. If your bike has ASC, I think it should have this procedure.
