Putting out a 2015 650 GT. Everything except the engine as a cam chain tensioner broke and ruin the engine. Please let me know if you need any parts.

Hi -

Sorry to hear about cam chain tensioner ruining your engine. Do you know if it was updated to newer version , meaning did you take it the dealer for warranty work to get the tensioner updated ? I have a 2015 also. Can I ask how many miles were on your GT when it broke ?

I would be interested in the lift shock that holds the seat up. Let me know if you would be willing send it to me. I'm located in northern CA

It was the “newer” generation mechanical tensioner. The recall covered the first generation but the 2nd generation models are starting to fail. There was only 5000 miles on mine. I could send you the lift. It may be after Christmas before I can get to it.

JB -

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm a bit concerned the tensioners are fail so quickly. I've heard about a hydraulic version, but It would have to be installed by a dealer & it's not covered by a warranty, so it's out of pocket expense . Wondering if it's worth it to update based when a tensioner fails then your BMW is ruined. Cost more to fix than buy another used ride.

No rush on the lift. Appreciate your help & being willing to help others with your misfortune.

Thx - Mike

Yes, unfortunately you will have to pay out of pocket for the hydraulic tensioner if / when your tensioner starts to go. No need to do it unless you start to hear a noise from the engine.
hopefully you won’t have to any time soon.

I have a 2013 c650gt, and both times my ratchet style tensioner failed. the first time I had only 10,000km on it, bmw rebuild the engine, put in the 2nd recalled tensioner in. after about 5000 km the engine started to "click and clack" again. to the point when it blew up. bmw looked into it, and found out the it was the tensioner the failed. so they shipped a hole new 2015 engine into my bike, with the new hydraulic tensioner. it was night and day for me!! I now have almost 100,000 km on this new engine.. JBChucktown I would get them at bmw to investigate how it happened. if you have warranty still and didn't mod. or added anything to that engine, you should get it replaced .

I just got the parts for my hydraulic tensioner. I have a manual for the mechanical tensioner.

I need some info for the hydraulic tensioner, at the top there is a hollow bolt 10mm and at the bottom there is a Bango bolt, what torque do I tighten them down to?

Please help for those that have a newer manual

JB, are you still here? Still parting the scooter?
Hello, sorry for the delay. I don’t think I am getting notifications on new posts. Yes, I am still parting out the scooter.
Fyi, all front side panels have been sold.
I have most of the other parts available. Thanks.

I am working to reset the settings to make sure I get new message notifications. Let me know if you still need anything.
