Getting my 2019 C400X on Saturday, used. Only 900 miles though. White with the red striped seat.

It will come with a BMW Motored Navigator V/VI cradle, but the previous owner kept the device itself. Unfortunately the cradle has been professionally installed with the wire immediately routed internally, so I can't just tear it off with a couple screws.

1) What the heck is the purpose for this $900 gizmo, when we all have better phones?
2) Instead of removing plastics to remove the cradle wiring, can I just cut it and tuck the end down in the opening where it goes? I know I could sell it for $150 on eBay, but not sure how involved removing the writing will be. I seemed to learn somewhere that the wire isn't just attached to the battery, but is actually connected to the bike system, so if I cut it I don't want to cause error codes or such bad stuff.

Thank you!

Michaelbarth,

Welcome to bmw-scooters.com!

Please include a photo of the cradle mounted on your C400X.

I can walk you thru the removal process.

Cradle is worth about $125 intact. Cutting the cable will pretty make it worthless.

The navigation cradle is mounted to an expensive cradle mount bracket that I can also sell on eBay. The wire runs under that bracket and into the bowels of the scooter.

I don't own a C400X so I will be providing you guidance.

Step 1 - If you can, please remove 2 x screws labelled as #2. Based on the picture provided, the 2 x screws #2 may not be easily accessible. If this is the case, please remove the 4 x T25 screws holding the BMW GPS cradle. Please be careful not to lose the 4 nuts.
Step 2 - Remove 2 x screws #10 and 1 x screw #8 to remove the top portion of the GPS Preparation bracket

Step 3 - Remove the top handlebar cover by removing the 4 x T25 screws in the above pictures - left and right side of handlebar.
Step 4 - Once the 4 T-25 screws have been removed, carefully remove the handlebar top cover to expose the electrical connector
Step 5 - Unplug the BMW Motorrad GPS Preparation cradle from your C400x

You may want to remove the lock cylinder before you sell the BMW Motorrad GPS Preparation cradle. This simplifies it for the buyer to purchase a replacement re-keyable lock cylinder.

Please feel to ask questions and provide pictures if you run into a snag.

Good luck.
