I have a 2013 C650GT. My closest BMW dealer is 120 miles away so I'll probably be repairing the bike on my own. I was wondering what scan tool you "do it yourselfers" would recommend? Also, can anyone recommend a service manual? I bought one and absolutely HATE it.

Thanks

You can find a bmw manual online that is the official bmw manual. It's the only one I have heard of (free download off some mega site) with the 2013 you can use the yellow gs911 (less money than the) red one. Only buy off there site as there are knockoffs

As for a scan tool I use is a gs911 in 13 years I have used it to change my clock, reset my windscreen, install new tire pressure sensors and turn my service light off (11 times).

The tool I got allows you to scan up to 10 serial numbers. I sold off 8 of the serial numbers and paid for the tool

Excellent service manual from BMW, but only available on DVD for Windows PC ....

For diagnostics, a BMW Motoscan app is cheaper than GS-911. Add an OBD Link LX, a 10-pin adapter and a cheapie Android tablet for the Motoscan (photo). I paid roughly $200 for everything. I used this set up to monitor bike performance, read codes, reset the Service light and program new TPMS sensors (with a separate $10 GM "wake up" tool).

I can sell you the 10-pin for $10 + shipping if you want. I have no use for it as only early GT's require it. I need everything else as they work with my CE 04. Also have an old Dell laptop I bought to read the Service manual. You could have it for $25 if you're an Apple guy.

Worth noting: Motoscan will NOT reset your windscreen, which is sometimes rendered dead if the battery is disconnected. To avoid that, don't disconnect the battery, or maintain power to the ECU if you're swapping out batteries. Once, I made the battery switch really fast and the windscreen still worked. Another time, it stopped working, which sent me to the dealer for a $99 reflash of the ECU -- and that sent me shopping for diagnostic gear to avoid future dealer visits.

Yikes, I had not heard of losing the windshield power if you changed batteries. And I swapped out my battery this summer since I have a 2020 and the bike needed to be kept on a trickle charger or it wouldn't start. Guess I was lucky.

Thanks for your reply. So the yellow one does most of the things the red one does? My scooter is like new, only 750 miles on it when I bought it so I'm not expecting anything to fail anytime soon, fingers crossed.
Do you have a link for this manual? I saw one that is a PDF for $10. here's a picture of the one I bought. It seems more geared to a shop tech with billing info and logging the service. Here's a pic.
