Scooter Coat Installiation

I have just installed the BMW Scooter Coat on my c6 Sport. If anyone is planning on purchasing this accessory remember that there is a retrofit kit (10 torx screws and 10 clips) that also must be ordered along with the coat itself, It seems that this is a seldom ordered item and your local shop might not realize that it is not a complete kit. I could not find a proper set of retrofit instructions anywhere online and my local mororrad shop sent me a pdf one week after I received my actual unit, after several hours of looking through the BMW fische to no avail.

I have used scooter skirts for many years on my Lambretta and I still find them to be one of the best and most usable accessory for scooters.

If anyone is interested I can write a simplified set of instructions as I installed mine the ol fashioned trial and error method. I can forward the pdf that I received from BMW to anyone interested. (can't quite figure out how to attach a pdf into this post)

I found it to be well made and your bike already has the attachment points cast into the factory body panels. So this accessory was built into the initial design of the C-series bikes from the drawing board...something I found interesting.

I was debating if I should order this for my c650gt that's on its way. Is it really worth it? It looks awesome. They recommend that the dealer install it.
is it easy to put on and off after the initial installation? Im not a "handy" guy ( Im a future CPA ). I sped most of my time at a desk so Im a little concerned that Ill mess my new bike up!
 
Since I've done it, I can answer your installation questions. But the short answer is, Yes, you do want it. I like them well enough I just put one on my missus 946 Vespa and I love riding with that one too. But, which apron does one BUY? I have the factory cover and it's great. The other apron on our Vespa is much different in materials and design and I'm still deciding which is better. The factory option has a rib on each side to help it keep it's shape. The Vespa apron honestly has two foam rubber tubular inserts vertically behind the riders legs to do the same. I think I like the foam tubes better than longitudinal ribs. The BMW apron has a rubberized fabric which is unique to the other aprons I've used.
I'd prob take a good look at aftermarket before making a final decision. If a thicker quilted materal is offered I'd take a good look at those as well.

I have the dealer install the scooter coat when I bought it. I bought some tenax fastners thinking I could figure out something else to hang off of them but haven't done so yet. Where is the temperature point that you feel like you start wanting the scooter coat?

Standby, I'll look and see. The lines of the bike are not spoilt by the mounting kit. All that's visible are plastic clips, like what's on a backpack or messenger bag, it's the male end on the bike and the larger female end is on the apron.

Thanks Xian...I appreciate it. Its good to hear that he hardware isn't all ugly! You described that there are plastic clips. Don't they rattle around when you ride???

You'll have to zoom in on this picture but along the side of the fairing you can see how the male ends of the apron attach to the bike. They are not obtrusive at all.

I bought the other brand Tucano.
Came with all th fittings 200 usd shipped.
Furry lined and built in seat cover.
also it uses the stock screws to hold the coat in place. only one "L" bracket and a nut and bolt for the floorboard. I have a flap to access the key and a pocket in the middle to store stuff.
I bought on Amazon
