I found this seat cylinder at walmart.com. Just installed it in about 5 minutes. It works well but is slightly too powerful so the seat is pushed over abut 1" to the left. I think as it weakens it will open and close more easily. The seat does pop up by itself now. For the price I think it is a viable alternative to donating a kidney to BMW for their parts. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Docooler...ent-for-C600-C650-C650GT-2011-2018/3240892206

I'm not sure I've ever seen a C seat go up "by itself."

These things are everywhere these days, all my cars use them, other stuff too. None of them go up un-assisted, but stay up when they are extended.

Mine just started becoming weaker, where I have to push the seat up just a bit more. Original BMW seem to be available for around $70 which, granted, is steep (pun intended) but not exorbitant I feel.

This after market cylinder is stronger so the seat is forced about 1/2in to 1in to the side. When I close the seat I have to push it to center. After a few months I will update this post. I use my seat several times per day so it should break in fairly fast I hope

Been almost a month since i installed my seat cylinder. So far it works like a champ. I still have to help it slightly but once it is free from the seat latch it rises by itself. I will lube the seat latch later this month and see it if does the trick.
