Smartphone mounting

I just got my 22 GT. Lots of questions but how are you folks mounting a smartphone. I’m only thinking a Ram mount clamp on the mirror stem. Are there other options. Thanks in advance.

I've seen ram mounts for the brake master, I have a 2013 GT and the PO used a handlebar clip and cut the plastic, some more of that southern engineering. I've overcome everything else the PO did, ALL maintenance is caught up, I think I've found everything they "fixed" and it's a well sorted scooter that's fun to ride. I'm guessing yours is a 400, don't know what the mirrors look like, but that 2 screw brake master mount looked good and seemed to work well.

Quad Lock makes a mirror stem mount that clamps directly on the mirror stem between the mirror and the attachment bolt. I already own a 1" Ram ball that mounts UNDER the mirror attachment bolt, that then has a three inch extension, and another 1" Ram Ball. On that I can either mount a Quadlock device or the Ram Cell Phone holder. That allows me to mount the phone well inside the wind screen.

If I was not leaving soon for the John Day Rally in Oregon I might order the BMW Motorrad Holder for the BMW Navigator V or VI. It takes the place of the BMW Rondel in the center of the handle bar housing. The unit has a horizontal bar that could alternatively be used for either a Quadlock or Ram phone mounting system. (BMW Part No. 77 52 9 898 252) available via MAX BMW here in the USA, for $161.00.

In Europe they sell a narrow bar that mounts between the two brake fluid reservoirs, using (2) slightly longer replacement screws on the reservoir covers. I've seen it on Ebay, but it did not interest me because the phone looks like it would be mounted so low that looking at it would take your eyes off the road.

Another Euro fix is a bracket that installs inside the windscreen using the top two bolts that hold the windscreen to the bike. On Amazon there is a similar bracket that also comes with USB wires and a phone holder for $44.

I have a (2 screw) Ram mount on the brake reservoir, a Ram extender, and then a quad lock with the vibration damper. Works a treat and very stable. Also allows full view of the TFT screen.

It's part of the Quad lock, an add on to the mount (it's the three pronged bit you can make out in the photo). They introduced it after having complaints that the vibrations from m/cycles were causing the photo sensors etc in the phones braking.

Photo 1 - Here is a picture of the mirror stem Quadlock without the vibration damper. $40 and another $50 for the case that fits your phone so you can use it.

Photo 2 - Myself, I like using a Ram system under the Quadlock. I took the Ram ball from my old bike and put it on my C400GT yesterday. It mounts at the bottom of the mirror stem.

Photo 3 - Now I added a 3” extension, and then the Quadlock. This keeps the phone well inside the protection of my windscreen. The two Ram balls are coated in rubber for better grip. Combined with the 3” extension there is enough vibration dampening for my iPhone SE II. I did a 3000 mile tour last year on my old bike with no issue. You might want to still add the Quadlock vibration damper if you have a newer phone than mine.

The rubber coatings on the balls and the 3” extension all absorb high frequency vibration and turn it into lower frequency, less damaging, vibrations.
