Summary of computer updates, service bulletins, and recalls please.

While I was waiting on the replacement engine for mine (replaced because of a flawed casting) the dealer said 'just keep driving it, if it dies it will just roll to a top, then call us".

It never died so I don't know what would happen for sure, but it seems that it would just coast to a stop.
 
the dealer just told me that the European part number for the tensioner is different to the us version, and that's why they haven't issued a recall, can anybody confirm this?
 
just find it hard to believe they made to 2 different ones, but what do I know. I wonder if bmw just doesn't have enough parts to go around and that's why usa is not on the recall yet.
 
That's an interesting thought about the part numbers. I wonder if they only differ in designation or if they actually spec differently. When I took my bike in to address the clanky tensioner the BMW Tech advised changing everything on the opposite side of the motor, clutch, seals, ect. I'm certain part availability must have had something to do with that.

I am ok to order the part and do it myself, but I wanna make sure its the updated version, I still have 2 more years of warranty, just don't want to get in an accident.
 
if any of you guys do buy one and fit it yourself, make sure you leave the T shaped insert in the tensioner whilst you fit it. once in and tightened then remove. better still, get hold of or buy the backing off tool.
 
That's great news! Though upon further analysis, it is not in my best interest financially to go through with the purchase. But, like the Ring of Power it keeps calling to me.

Just changed my adjuster, as with the other one i know of the new adjuster body has a serial number or something on the mount flange of the body. Other than that they look the same.
Still, makes me feel more at ease knowing i have a new one.
 
Spoke with service manager at the Worcester, MA dealer today (and saw someone's C650GT in the maintenance bay getting the timing chain tensioner replaced). The battery recall is VIN, not model specific. He explained that BMW discovered a bad batch of batteries had been installed across several product lines. A check on your bike's VIN will let you know if your battery is part of the recall.
 
Got an email from the dealer; a new recall on handlebar controls for the turn signals. No other info. Anybody know anything. He said it's not a "park the bike until fixed" thing.

My 650 did not show on on the recall list yet the battery crapped out within 5 months. They replaced it saying it was bad so so much for the recall list. My chain tensioner isn't on the list either but now I'm wondering about that part as well??

Nothing on the NHTSA site. I've had the hazard flashers come on by themselves a half-dozen times. Don't know if they're wired into that handlebar turn signal control. It has always felt flimsy/fragile to me.

Unreliable is a word. I carry a spare right hand switch just in case the start button fails on me.
