Timing chain tensioner recall done

The local dealer did the chain tensioner recall today. With 2400 miles on it I can't detect any difference in running or the sound of the engine so I guess mine hadn't loosened anyway. It is a relief though to have them replace it though, none less thing to think about.
 
Hi, I am brand new to this site, glad I found it. I have a 2014 GT that I bought in March. Can anyone tell me if this one will also receive a recall for the Chain Tensioner?? As of today, I have not received any notification of this recall but have read where many others have received this? Thanks!
 
Welcome to the club. As Steve said, the dealer will know based on the VIN. This site allows you to plug in your own VIN. (Just tried it and it works, though it doesn't "know" that my bike has been serviced for the recalls, just the recalls that apply to my VIN).

The NHTSA info says that it is on bikes manufactured through Feb. 2014

Forgot to mention that there is a battery recall out there too. But it is tied to the VIN only, not manufacture date or model year. BMW says that they had a bad lot of batteries installed throughout many of their product lines. So that site I just posted should be able to tell you if your bike is on the battery recall list, based on its VIN.

Thanks to everyone, I will try the link to see what I can find out on my VIN number. Yes, I am aware of the battery, found out the hard way as it failed to turn over about 2 months ago. I've had that replaced along with my water pump which was also defective and leaking. I'm hoping I dont encounter more issues as I really want to like this bike! Best to all!

off the top of my head yours shouldnt need the recall but get it checked out anyway as it might have been sat around a while before being registered.
 
Had mine done over the weekend. I felt the bike was a little bit more responsive. No scientific reason, just felt it. Just happy BMW's recall happened in the Philippines.
 
VERRRY interesting. I just used that web page above, and it only shows ONE recall campaign against my scooter and that's the timing chain tensioner. Even more intriguing, I did this search today, and the page indicates "Remedy not yet available." Makes me wonder how "up to date" this database really is?
 
If your tensioner was so loose that the chain was ready to jump a cog, you might have slightly degraded performance. But not much. You also would probably hear it. Otherwise there shouldn't be any reason for the performance to change with a new tensioner.

Actually, it wouldn't affect the overlap unless it jumped one cam gear and not the other. If it jumped the main gear it would through off the timing , but, the overlap would remain the same. The bike would probably run ok until it jumps a tooth. Or, if your bike is running good before the tensioner is changed, you won't get any change after replacement.
