Urban feature missing on C400GT

Bought new C400 GT a few days ago. There is no Urban feature. Anyone ever come across this?
Pete:

I just made a second video of my '23 C 400 GT (47 seconds):

So:

1) Can you cycle through among those other screens?

2) Is Urban the only one you're missing, i.e., can you see those other screens, the way I demonstrated?

This is pretty unusual -- in fact, I've never read about anything like the problem you're having. I suppose it's possible someone at the factory forget to click something, when setting up the bike. Or a firmware chip had a hiccup during that process.

There are all sorts of hidden or unused or suitable for other model options in the firmware behind those screens. Should be fairly simple for a dealer to (re-)add the Urban screen, I would think.

Good luck, and report back, please, after your visit.

Yes to both questions. I agree, a simple add on after diagnostic check. I will update as soon as I can!

I also have the 2025 and there is no Urban Screen. Hey, I just posted about my bike having a rattle in the front. Would you take a look and tell me what you think?

I was at the dealership earlier today. The tech there had no idea how to add the URBAN feature.I was advised a rep /advice from BMW would take at least 24 hours. I left with the bike. They are to call me once they have a solution. I will post further when I have an answer.

I regret I cannot advise you re the rattle!

I have only used the Urban screen a couple times to check RPMs after a software update. Otherwise I have found it useless. I would check to see if they put the RPM's in a different screen on the 2025? That would make sense to me. You don't need one big screen just for RPMs.

I bet you can install an urban screen with a GS-911 tool.
I installed the R1250R Screen and Sport screen on my C400X scooter.

Both original screens put back at the BMW dealers request to avoid any complications as they purchased it from me in a px.

This is what I got back from my dealer.

Hi David, we reviewed both a 2024 and a 2025 C400GT scooter that we have on file, and it appears the owners manuals have not be updated yet to reflect that for the 2025 model the dash UI has been updated, and there is not an "Urban" display mode. The new interface incorporates a rpm bar under the speed indication.

Perhaps BMW listened to me. You think?

, I wrote to the BMWNA rep who I had been dealing with for a few months. A month or so before that, my '22 C 400 GT was finally exchanged for a brand new '23 C 400 GT, because I had an engine problem with the former, and it had been in my local dealership's shop for most of the summer (see https://www.bmw-scooters.com/thread...brand-new-23-c-400-gt-free-part-i-of-ii.2932/ if you're glutton for punishment, as that's a VERY long post.)

In that email, I summarized the good and bad aspects of that bike-exchange process. When I was done yapping about that, I threw in some other, more general, comments, such as the good and bad aspects of the bike itself. And regarding the latter -- the aspects that needed improvement -- this is one of the points I made. And I quote myself now:

5) Last, the TFT display screen could be better designed and utilized.

My main complaint here is that the engine's RPM can be viewed only on the Urban screen of the display.

You might say, "Well, so what, this information isn't really necessary?" First of all, it's no more unnecessary than, say, the voltage display. All the rider really needs to know -- in the absence of any lit up "idiot light" warnings -- is the speedometer and fuel-level information, yet other information is displayed.

More importantly, the RPM information is required for the first 621 miles. The break-in procedure for the C 400 specifies that the RPMs be kept under 7,000 for that period (along with varying the bike's speed, avoiding highways, and so forth). That means that for that period, only the Urban screen can be displayed. That screen shows only the speed and RPMs; all of the other information about the bike's status -- everything BUT the RPMs -- can be found on the My Vehicle display, but that display cannot be used for the first 1,000 Km.

Explain to me why the RPMs cannot be shown on the My Vehicle screen. That's my default screen when I ride the bike. I use Urban only during the break-in period (which I haven't finished yet), or dive deeper in the My Vehicle area when I reset tripmeters.

For one thing, the graphic image of the bike could be removed. Its presence on the My Vehicle display is just plain silly. If a programmer wants to show his or her graphic design ability, fine, show a picture of the bike at start-up, and then remove it. I know what the bike looks like; I do not need to see that picture while I'm riding.

And speaking of design ability, I have test-ridden other current BMW bikes with that same display unit, and they have much more interesting, and more colorful, displays. They utilize orange and red and other colors; by contrast, it almost seems as if the display on the C 400 GT was programmed for a monochrome hardware unit.

Yes! That is what I suspected becasue it made no sense to have that screen when it could have been displayed anywhere. When I checked today the Urban screen already has MPH and a Tach so you really don't need the MPH only screen wheich is what I bet they eleminated and renamed?
