What to do when your scoot won't crank?

Freaked out today when my scoot wouldn't start. It was on the center stand and when I hit the starter button it turned over once and died. After that pressing the button did nothing. I ended up with the panels off checking fuses and battery, all good, fully charged via my battery tender. I even hooked up my jump starter but still nothing. Then I rolled the bike off the center stand and moved it into the shade, set on it's kickstand, when I hopped on it, pulled the kickstand up, and tried again it fired right up. So now I am suspecting the side stand switch?
Additionally, the previous owner had a big (1/2" square) rare earth magnet stuck onto the bike near the switch, I figured it was for stop lights, I noticed it had fallen off. He even had another magnet in the tool kit. Maybe it had something to do with the switch? I don't know if the side stand switch is mechanical or electrical using magnets...

Replace the stand switch.

OK, thanks. Sounds like a good idea. Small exposed seven year old switch is probably a good candidate for failure. I went by the BMW shop and they did say there is no "work around" if it does fail, I would be stuck wherever. No way to bypass it. Is this a known life limited thing? I ask because maybe the kickstand was just slightly down and I didn't catch that...

There has to be a way to bypass the switch, I would think. Anyway, since it's a safety feature, I would first try to fix the existing switch and, if that is unsuccessful, or a new switch is inexpensive, replace it.
