On the subject of leftover fasteners, did you know that in hell there is an unfortunate magician whose task it is to make sure that when a person drops a jam sandwich, it will always land jam-side down. I suspect s/he is also slipping in fasteners when we're not looking whilst tinkering with our scooters!

That's pretty much how I felt too, Delray. I felt like an idiot to have fumbled it in; but then I felt like a genius getting it out! Once I had removed all the panels on the left hand side, the actual fishing expedition took well under a minute. Next time, I will be far more careful, but at least I now know it can be done. And Ceesie76, FYI I have ended up with 4 spare screws after replacing the left hand panels!
