"Wind Deflectors?"

Hello, I am brand new owner of a C650GT 2016 picked up from Ozzie's, in Chico, California. Great friendly staff. So, I am trying to outfit the bike for medium range touring. So many options, so little $..😎
However, these items are listed on the BMW website, wind deflectors, as an accessory. I am 5'8", so the stock wind screen works well for me, however I was curious what kind of effect that the these wind deflectors might have.... If anyone has tried them, please let me know. Thanks in advance!!
 
If you ride through the underbrush, you might like to protect your hands, for street riding, I have never felt the need. How well will they protect your bike in a crash? How bad is the crash?
I would spend my money other places first.
 
Snowdog, he's not talking about the Ascerbis hand guards; he's talking about the Wind Deflectors available from BMW. They are hard rubber attachments to the edges of the front fairing. Supposedly they'll deflect the air out farther so they don't hit your hands directly. I see their value more as a protection to the painted fairing. You can see them on my scooter in the later photographs I posted in the Gallery.
 
I always laugh when I hear someone say they never have had a drop or tip-over. I would hazard a guess that 1 in a 100 may never experience an "event" of this nature. The rest are liars- lol. In my first two years I had one on each side when in a slow speed right hand turn/lean the engine stalled and I could hold up the bike and another on stop on a slope when I put my foot down and it was like marbles on the road. I feel the first event I couldn't have avoided especially as the stall was a known problem fixed under warranty. The second with marbles I put down to a rookie mistake. The boards and side panels suffered in both cases but the top box saved any damage at the back. Maybe a total of $300 to fix up both.

Tip-over King here:D, checked out the gallery and Lee's wind deflector link and couldn't find the picture you (or Lee) were referring to. Anything that might save the fairing is a real plus. Help this dense PTW guy with a picture.

Post script...Hey Colin saw your post after I submitted mine. Remember my $100 fix (or was it $75)? Yeah, slow speed drops happen. I proudly claim (well, not really proudly) to have dropped German, Japanese, British, and American bikes. Sigh....Ohh, to have the skill set of those that never have:rolleyes:

SteveADV, I am not sure why there was a link created with my "wind deflectors" post. If you go to the BMW site for the C650GT, there is an accessory tab that lists and shows the deflectors.
