My US spec CE04 did not come with the alarm module installed, so I purchased the module from a local BMW dealer and installed it using the existing wiring harness plug. However, it didn’t work. My GS911 tool could see that the module was installed, and the alarm menu on the TFT showed the alarm options, but the alarm didn’t work, and the key fob buttons didn’t work. Hexcode, the maker of the 911 tool, informed me that their current software version could not code a previously uncoaded module.

Hexcode worked with me on a beta release to allow the programming of this uncoaded module. After a few failed attempts, they were able to enable coding, resulting in a fully functioning alarm module and key for arm/disarm buttons. I’m not sure how much the dealer would have charged me to do this, but it would not have been free :-D If you are looking to install an alarm module and don’t want to pay the dealer to do it, this tool is another option. It also has other benefits; check the Hexcode website for that :-)

Resurrecting an old thread. I just purchased a DWA8 control unit on eBay. Its a couple supersessions ago, but I'm with my GS911 I'll be able to retrofit it and get the remote buttons programmed. Anyone else attempted the factory alarm retrofit?
