Went for a group ride with a few people all riding normal bikes :D Seems everywhere we stopped someone would come over and ask who owns the BMW and then go on to ask a bunch of questions about the big scoot :p not sure it went down well with the others though ;)

I get that often but the most common comment - I didn't know BMW made a scooter. That's usually followed by - can you take it on the highways?
 
Harley riders are way more friendly then BMW riders to alternate brands. When I had my Silverwing, Harley riders would often come over to kibitz, more then once I have had groups of BMW riders literary turn their backs to me when I tried to kibitz.

Yes riding along on trips the BMW bike owners are often the ones who will not do the wave. Of course the wave is not a requirement but when safe it's a mark of respect for fellow riders. Harley and other big cruiser type bikes will in most cases.
 
I am in such a waving habit I have actually unintentionally waved at a bike when driving my car. Really. Guess that says where my mind is when on the road.

(Of course, haven't ever had anyone wave back yet when in the Buick.....Hmmmm, maybe I'll keep at it and see if I can get the two fingers low)
 
I'm always getting questions and comments about my c600. I also see people staring at it (after all, it is really sexy). Most seem surprised it is a scooter. Then they are really surprised when I pop the seat and throw two bags of groceries in it. They really bug out when I tell them it has heated seats and grips.

The only folks who seem to sneer at it are the sport bike squids.

I'm going on a Chicago to Nashville charity ride this weekend with some Harley types. We will see how this goes...
 
The question I get asked most; "Is that a motorcycle or a scooter...?"

My response, "It's BMWs' version of a scooter, handles like sport bike with the practicality of a scooter."

This waving business gets complicated. In 1961 I bought an MGA and found out about the "sports car wave". That was okay. Then I got a motorcycle and was initiated into the "bike wave" not too bad. But when I bought a Jeep TJ I discovered there is a "jeep" wave too. So when I'm on the scooter I wave to bikes and when I'm in the Jeep I wave at other Jeeps. I'm afraid to know what might happen if I should wave at bikes while in the Jeep or vice versa.
 
I am getting more looks and "what is it?". The two questions I always get once they hear its a scooter are: (1) How fast does it go? and (2) Where's the motor?

I'm thinking it might be easier just to preempt the questions and after saying its a scooter telling them - "It goes 120 and BMW figured out how to get rid of the motor so there isn't one - that's why you can't see it."

The wave! LOL When I first got a scooter I did not expect any motorcycles riders to wave at me. I soon found I was counted in the two wheel brotherhood. It's off however in that in my State WA I have found most riders do not wave at each other. In Idaho they do so I have a rule, I don't wave at anyone in WA unless they do first then I return the salute. I have noticed the hard core biker types with bigger Harleys wave the least.
