2016 looks ... tame

I was looking at picks of the 2016 GT 650 last night and it struck me how boring and tame it looks compared to the 2013. The 2013 looks like a sport bike with a step through and the new 2016 looks a lot more like a Burgman or a Silverwing or any other maxi scoot that is modeled after a couch on wheels, I really don't like it. It's lost it's sporty look.

That pretty much sums up my opinion too. I have no idea what they were thinking, especially with that bulbous looking rear end.

Looks great! And just like a BMW, not at all like one of those lesser brands;) Honestly, I can't tell much of a difference at all between the 2016s and earlier GTs.

I like the looks of the '16 Sport better. I only wish the new GT still had the red color available. I think a scooter deserves more stand out colors.

Yeah, hopefully a better refresh of the GT is in the works. They definitely focused on the Sport. The red is a really nice color, and a nice blue would be good too.

Yah know Lee, it's a funny thing about these BMW machines. You are 110% right. They are a TON of fun. The changes to the Sport are clearly more pronounced but the GT remains the juggernaut in the US. Mechanical changes, yup. Cosmetic changes, not so much to the GT. Personally, I like the "angry wasp" look of the current GT.

Also, on another note, probably the vermillion red could no longer be offered as it was WAY too fast! ;)

I don't want them to give up storage! I can see possibly moving to a GT if my wife is going to come with me more. I'm thinking more like 3rd Gen. I like the improvements to the 2nd Gen, but hope for a visual makeover.

Reports on G+ BMW site says scooter sales are way up this year, no doubt thanks to the new C650 Sport. Hopefully they'll move more efforts to the GT in the next year or two.

I would like to have the huge underseat storage, then add a bigger top case, I have a 39 liter now, but add one that could hold two full face helmets. That would almost match the total I currently have with the added side cases. I figure 39liter top case, 50 liters with the side cases, 12 with the tunnel bag and about 20 underseat.

I figure the GT has about 50 liters (Burg 650 does) underseat; add a 47 or 55 liter topcase, plus the tunnel bag, and storage is close.

Just talking now...

Nope. The biggest change is apparently "Ride by Wire" and Automatic Stability Control. One hopes that the Ride-by-Wire is a prelude to a real CRUISE CONTROL!

The C650 sport is still cable, not certain on the GT but I believe that is also cable.
