Anti-theft center stand lock!

Interesting concept, but my grasp of Italian is rivaled only by my grasp of Japanese... the link to the English site doesn't appear to be working yet. It would be perfect if the lock could be keyed to the existing ignition key...

Yeah, I've been thinking my current security system would be laughed at by anyone who really wanted the bike. With my plans to travel this spring and overnight stays with the GT parked in motel lots, I probably need more than my cover and my pad lock and coated wire.

Of course, if a thief wants it bad enough, it will be gone regardless of what we use.......Armed guard being the exception.

The only comment on the you tube 'video' says "It just does not funiona ... AWFUL". And there are no shots of how it works to block the center stand.

I have an old-style Kryptonlte motorcycle lock which goes through the front wheel and around a fork leg. Enough to stop someone from simply rolling it away.

I come from the world of geared Vespa and Lambretta that can be picked up and tossed into a truck by one person. I can't imagine anyone pushing a 550 lb bike without a few friends. I've thought about the factory chain that runs from the bars to the frame. And currently I'm trusting the steering column lock is solid enough to not be kicked open. I like the kryptonite idea but remember to get as small a u lock as you can fit, as a small scissor car jack can spread the u bar open in seconds of it'll fit inside the u

Right... and I've had a 500+ lbs bike stolen by guys who apparently just hoisted it into the back of a van and drove off where they could work on the locks at their leisure. The only real security is a STRONG chain and padlock locking your scoot to something immovable. That combined with an alarm system that starts SCREAMING as soon as someone touches it the wrong way. And NEVER park your scooter out of sight... park it where the whole WORLD can see it. Why give the thieves some privacy while they're trying to steal your ride?

Generally speaking bikes are stolen for either a joy ride or to sell for parts. Since the BMW C series is a fairly small market it would be interesting to see if thefts have been a real issue. I believe a good heavy cable lock like a Kryptonite mounted high enough off the ground and/or a disc brake lock would be good protection. It would seem like dirt and gunk could find its way into the center stand lock making it stick.

One thing about a maxi scooter is that most thieves don't want them. If you have a Harley you gotta worry about theft either whole or piecemeal. In the U.S. scooters aren't considered very macho which keeps theft of these things down a bit. When touring and staying at motels I usually ask if I can park in front of the office under their portico if they have one. Usually they'll let you. That helps with security and keeps the rain off if it comes.
