I bought the tool from bmw, about $30. I think I have pic in gallery. If not I will post when I'm back home tonight with part number.

They want $300+ for the spring compressor, I just pay them to compress it. $100, and they installed my Dr pulley clutch all together.

Oh, $30 is not bad at all for the tool, Can I get it at a BMW dealer? Just ask them for a variator tool?
Do you know what the torque spec is for the variator nut and what size it is?

I'm just doing sliders, so I won't need the spring compressor luckily...

DR. Pulley

Got the rollers and sliders in the mail today. Just about two weeks after ordering them from the website! Great service and fast delivery!

Just ordered a set of Dr. Pulley 28 g rollers and sliders and will get them installed at my next BMW service (10 K) Looking forward to see the kind of changes you guys described in the previous posts.

Just to add more info to this thread. The Variator nut size is 33mm.
I just installed the 3020R 28gram sliders today. I didn't even need the BMW variator holder tool, I just used a strap wrench that I had for oil filters, worked perfect.

When you go wide open throttle you can hear the engine rev higher now (shorter effective gearing) and this does make the scooter have a little more punch.
I'm not sure I would say its "Explosive Acceleration" like the DR Pulley package says, but it is better acceleration ;)

This was a very easy job, very straight forward. The only thing that require a little research was making sure I installed the Slider weights correctly.

I also purchased the DR Pulley 4 "sliding pieces" and unfortunately they were ever so slightly too large, I could get them to fit in there if I pressed real hard but then the variator ramp plate wouldn't easily slide up and down, so I probably wouldn't recommend getting those.

You have to massage them a bit to fit, including dressing the variator cast aluminum ribs they slide around. If you do it that way you eliminate about 90% of the sloppy fit that comes with the BMW (and MOST) variators, due to mass-production needs for larger tolerances. Tightening up those clearances completely eliminates any variator rattling and is well worth the extra work. Also, the sliding pieces aren't soft nylon as the OEM ones, but the MUCH longer wearing Dr. Pulley proprietary mix.

The stock ones were still in excellent shape, but yeah they are a little loose like most variators. Maybe when they start to wear out i'll massage the DR Pulley ones to fit better...

I got mine today too! :p.

The instructions for the sliding pieces say "They should sit tight, but not jam. If they are too tight, you can widen the gap a little bit with a fine file."

What part of your warranty is voided by installing these, if any? Would be limited to the variator or is the whole drivetrain warranty voided? I'd hate to give up a 3 year warranty.

No part of your warranty is voided...
These are just little plastic pieces in the variator. The stock ones wear out and need to be replaced anyways, so something a little lighter/better design is nice...

I even have the BMW tool, I could probably do this job in 30 minutes. Pretty easy. (That's a hint since i'm local to you ;) )

I nice ride on the backroads up to New Hampshire would be a nice way to spend an afternoon. And I know I can fit at least a twelve pack in my Givi trunk....

It took me about 2 weeks to get the sliders from wherever they come from.
I don't drink and I don't need anything for helping. I enjoy working on vehicles :)

Shoot me a PM when you get em and I'd be happy to assist.

My "test" run to make sure the Givi rack was attached correctly:

So before I order the sliders (and sliding pieces Skutorr) and drive up to New Hampshire to meet my new best friend Phil, I have a question for those of you that have them. Worth it?
