Best price on BMW luggage rack?

The luggage GRID is $87.50 according to that page, and is a part of the entire assembly. But the best way to confirm that is to call them.

Oh dear! For something over 100 dollars I expected it would at least be aluminum or die cast metal. BMW makes these things in plastic! Not very classy! So disappointed in it's choice of materials. I should think for what you pay for these they would be guaranteed for the lifetime of the bike.

If it works, what difference does it make if it is plastic? Aluminum has it's down sides too. I think most of GIVI's racks are plastic (I have had several) and they are quite durable.

For one thing it will scratch easy. Being on the back is prone to being struck by things. I don't mind plastic but for gods sake price it accordingly.

I ended up putting on the SHAD rack, its aluminum, and it looks great, is very sturdy, and is much cheaper.

Interesting. You can get the mount and top case for about what I paid for the rack. I bought the rack not with the idea I would mount a case however but so I could bungie additional items on the back. For sure a great deal on a top case though.

Stupid question, where do I find the installment instructions? Sheet of paper mentions downloading ASAP web portal. Sounds meaningless and nothing is on any BMW site about it.

FOUND the site https://www.parts.bmwgroup.com but nothing works on it. I can click on the link but nothing happens. Confusion....

The directions are in the repair manual if I remember correctly. Of course BMW wants money for that too. There might be directions on the "Web Bike World" site.

If you aren't going to use a top box, and will tie things on you might be better off with a GIVI they have a rack more suitable for tying stuff on. At least they used to.

There is an expandable bag mount which goes on a top case mount, lots of money, I suggest making your own.

Pretty sure I got it scratch free, somehow just sitting in the box it picked one up. I can only imagine what it will look like a year after being used. Sigh.

Called BMW, they don't know why their site is not working and there is no immediate solution. Referred me to my local dealer since the dealer who sold it to me has not yet responded. Local dealer is at a loss but is looking into it.

I think it's easy enough to put together w/out the instructions but the BMW emblem at the rear of the bike needs to come off and that is the part I am hung up on. I don't want to damage it to remove it.
