BMW CE 04 Service Overdue

I’ve only got 640 miles on my new CE 04 And a yellow “Service Overdue” light is on. Does anyone have an idea why it might be lit so early in its mileage? I don’t see any other warning lights for anything that might be an issue. The light is on saying I am PAST my service due date. The manual states that one possibility could be that the date setting could be incorrect if the battery was disconnected at some point. But I checked that as well and the time and date are fine. And is there any way to reset the light yourself or must it be done by an authorized BMW mechanic? Thanks for any help!!

BMW typically has an initial 600-mile maintenance as part of the schedule for all of their motorcycles & scooters.

Having done it on the CE-04, it's possibly a waste of time and effort on this bike as there are no pistons to break in. The initial maintenance cycle is effectively a belt tension check and a final drive fluid change. However, if you skip the 600-mile maintenance and run into an issue with either component, you may have a difficult time getting warranty work done without proof of maintenance.

Yes, you can reset the reminder on your own, but to do so requires tools that are 1/3rd of the maintenance cost.

But isn’t that maintenance check covered under warranty? And where can I find out how to reset the warning light if I desired to?

1) That 600-mile service is not covered by the warranty, any more than the 6,000-mile, 12,000-mile, whatever, services are covered by the warranty. Okay, it's a special, one-off, service interval, but it's still just a service interval, just like all the others.

Same deal on my C 400 GT that I purchased new last summer: 600-mile, and then the longer, regular, intervals.

2) @triangletom provided at least one link -- https://www.bmw-scooters.com/index.php?threads/service-reminder-reset.2541/ -- in his post above, regarding resetting that reminder (if you choose to ignore that particular service, despite what he pointed out about possibly voiding the warranty).

If you want to read more about the reset hardware and software, you might want to use the Search box (atop most forum pages) and look for gs911 or motoscan, for instance, and browse through the returned threads.
