So I have been looking for oil for the scooter So the 15/50 oil that is api sj and jaso ma is it dino oil (Regular oil) or is it Synthetic oil they don't say one way or the other like most other things that they don't make clear in the manual. Since there is 6000 miles between changes I'm thinking synthetic, but not sure.

These are oils that meet BMW's specs I found in a blog.

I am at 300 miles and I am starting to look for the oil and filter now so I can change it myself at 600 miles.
The question is where do we get the Oil BMW specifies? does only the dealer carry it? How about the filter, Where can I buy one of those online and are there any upgrades, like a Mobil 1 filter or something like that?

Motorex 15W50 Boxer 4T For BMW ($57.31 per 4 liter jug) API SJ, JASO MA (Motorex product page)
Repsol Moto Rider 4T 15W50, 4 Liter Jug ($29.65 per 4 liter jug) API SJ, JASO MA (Repsol tech info .pdf)
Motul 5100 4T 15W50 ($38.17 per 1-gallon jug) API SJ JASO MA (Motul tech info .pdf)
Bel-Ray EXP 15W50 ($36.26 per 4 liter jug) API SJ, JASO MA2 (Bel-Ray product page)
Motorex Legend 4T 15W50 ($27.89 per 4 liter jug) API SJ, JASO MA (Motorex product page)
Motorex Top Speed 4T ($38.77 per 4 liter jug) API SJ, JASO MA (Motorex product page)

The oil specified is 15W50 jaso sj ma2.

The oil is a castrol and is only available at the dealer. Here in Canada it is $22 a litre. So in the states it will probably be about $18 and a filter about $18. Over the 6000 miles you will do it is a small price to pay. Don't cheap out just do it. There is no other oil out there that meets all the specs. So far all you are finding is the 15W50 SJ MA you are not seeing the 2 at the end. Is it worth taking the chance of burning out the clutch or engine or whatever the oil is protecting
You spent $10000 or more on the scooter what is another $100 a year. Whenever I sold my BMW's in the past I sold them for more than other people due to having the proof of maintaining them properly.

One other person I read online had the dealer do the oil change and the oil was only $36 so it would be obviously (based on price) be the wrong oil and the dealer just threw what he had into it.

Sorry the picture is a tiny bit blurry but the labels can be read

As for the filter it is the same one they use on the K1600 and the R1200 gs and a few others

From what I have read about oil the MA rating will be fine for the BMW scooters the MA2 rating has a slight higher friction rating than the MA and since the BMW scooters don't have a wet clutch there should be no problems what you should look for is that the oil is 4t for four cycle engines Vs. 2t oil for 2 cycle engines P.S the castrol oil if it is like its auto oil it is made from the castor bean and I have found that oil to produce a lot of sludge which is not good for any kind of engine.
