CE-04 Acceleration

It was raining when I tried out the dealer demo bike and also when I bought it and took it home. I had it in Rain mode both times. I had to do a couple of long journeys so switched to Eco mode. The first time I put it in Dynamic (or Hooligan) mode I was left grinning from ear to ear but with my arms hurting from the force. So I wondered - what was the force on my arms? Well with an acceleration of 0- 30mph or 50 km/hr this equates to 0.5g. I am 17 stone light so I reckon that could be 8.5 stone (54 kg) horizontal force on my arms (I suppose this ignores the frictional force between my 'bottom' and the seat) ? (OK I know force should be in Newtons but you get my drift?)

In the connected app a measures a lot of metrics get measured, one being g force for acceleration and deceleration. I have only hit .9g's on both at 19.7 stone. You could be spot on if your weight is distributed somewhat evenly. I have learned you need to brace yourself and lean forward if you are going to give it full beans in dynamic. When I first got the 04, my head would snap back because i didn't have good control over the twist of the throttle yet.

Yes I suppose the figure I gave is the average acceleration between 0 and 50 km/hr for a quoted time of 2.6 seconds (which I missed out of my first edit) so there must be some higher and lower points in there - at the 0.9g you achieved, the force is much more.

Great thread!

I'm a huge fan of Dynamic mode, but I use it sparingly - maybe once every month when the mood is right. I'm pretty sure if I ever have a single-vehicle accident with the CE-04, it's going to be in Dynamic mode, throttling through a turn from a stop sign. 98% of the time, I ride in Eco mode because the regen feels just right to me.

While I have not yet had any acceleration-induced pain, it has taken me some time to find the right body positions to use to avoid back pain. Like @Rootctrl, I tend to lean forward more than I first did with the bike, especially when accelerating through curves.

@MKUNES - One thing I find interesting about the CE-04's acceleration is its curvature. It's totally ballistic from 0-25kph, but by the time it gets to 50kph, the 2.6s timing is equivalent to a Mini Cooper S or Nissan 280ZX. For me, it feels pretty damned fast up until about 65kph, after which it feels like a regular non-sports vehicle. With how it flattens out, I have to wonder how much of that is a drivetrain limitation or the bike trying to fit a software-defined curve to maximize efficiency/reliability.

What you guys are noticing is typical of electric motors, very high torque and power at low rpm which quickly tapers off at higher speeds. The exact opposite of a gas powered motor cycle or car. This is the reason plug in hybrids after 40-60 mph switch over to the gas engine since it’s more efficient at high speeds and continues to accelerate.

Annyone else notice slower acceleration at a lower state of charge in cooler weather? I think i can but its inconstant.

As the pack and range decrease so does acceleration since the packs voltage and more importantly amperage is reduced. Therefore any speed test should be accompanied at full charge. I also heard the motor generally runs at half performance 20 hp and only uses full power 42hp for seconds when needed.

While they say the CE matches a 400 cc that’s not quite correct my past BMW 650 would not stand a chance against the CE
