Clutch Life?

Does anyone have a clue how long the clutch should last? I didn't pay super-close attention last time I replaced the belt and don't have any "signs" of the friction material getting low but better to ask now rather than be surprised. I'm getting close to 36k miles.

I looked in the maintenance manual and it looks like the "clutch packet" has to be replaced and involves some steps/tools I don't have. Basically, it doesn't look as simple as replacing the friction material. Alternatively, I've seen some posts on replacing the OEM clutch assembly with the Dr. Pulley HIT clutch (part #HiT302002) and am wondering if that's a better choice (probably cheaper too!).

Any thoughts/suggestions/experience would be appreciated!

I don't know how long the clutch will last in a C650 but in the Burgman and Silverwing they go for a long time. I know that one of the two SWs I had showed over 30,000 miles on its original clutch and was still running fine. On the Silverwing forum there was at least one that had exceeded 27,000 miles with no problems. I don't see why the BMW should do much less.

Follow the posts on this forum and you'll see that the seals behind the clutch eventually fail and ruin the clutch, which was problematic to begin with (chatter, glazing, noise, take-off, smoothness of engagement, rpm setting, etc.)

The new C650 Sport has the upgraded clutch seals, improved clutch and variator assemblies, and gearing/CPU changes to make for smoother, quicker and more trouble -free function.:D For everyone who currently HAS a C-series, the only long-term solution/replacement is the Dr. Pulley HIT (High Initial Thrust)...

I had over 90k on my Silverwing original clutch.

A lot depends on how you ride as well. I don't let the clutch slip much being a bit sprightly on the throttle. Some parts are consumable, clutch, CVT belt, brake pads, tires, etc. I like to ride, and it's most fun when you're pushing the bike in the curves. So I'm willing to pay to replace whatever wears out. The old 'Ya gotta pay to play'. On the previous Silverwings I've owned it was pretty easy to maintain those parts, I don't know how it will be with my GT but I'm going to find out as the miles build up.
