Comie/Shad Tour Box

Just wanted to let folks know that SHAD USA is having a Black Friday Sale. If I had waited another week I could have gotten another 5% off. (Oh Well) It is 30% off from Nov. 23 to Dec 2. They gave me a discount code BFCM. Not sure if this will work for anyone or only previous customers.

Got all the Shad gear I ordered today. It all came in one box. The break light, mounting plate, and pad were in the Case and the white cover was already installed. So quick delivery from what I think is a good company.

I have little patience. My OEM top case mount, shipped from Germany, has been sitting in US Customs in Chicago 60 miles from my house since Dec 1st, (10 days) and hasn't budged. It is what it is. I did call the post office today just to verify that there was nothing I could do to get this thing moving and they said that is correct. They are so far behind on international shipping because of the holiday and all you can do is wait. Oh Well. At least I know where it is.

Update: I signed up to be alerted of any action with my shipment and today the USPS sent me a message stating that my package has left Customs. Should not be long now. (Hmmmmm)

Not at your situation, but it did make me giggle! Reminded me of the father in "A Christmas Story" waiting for the leg lamp to arrive!

I have GIVI topcases that I can interchange between my VESPA GTS and the BMW 400GT. I have 30, 46, and 56 liter cases. It works out very well for me. The pic could be better but outside it was a squall.

I had a Givi case on my Vespa 300GT some years ago and I remember it being a very well built case. If I remember correctly, I could do everything with one hand with my Givi. Open it, take it off the bike if it wasn't locked, put it back on the bike, it just clicked in. I think it was a mono key. The Shade takes 2 hands. I don't think you can put it on the bike or take it off with one hand. Even opening it is kinda a 2 step operatin. But the operation is easy, and it is versatile, and also seems to be of high quality. I really like that I have a medium size case for everyday use but can expand it if I need to carry groceries home from the market or do an over nighter.

FWIW, I had Givi cases on both of my Burgman 650s. They were, in general, fine cases, and I also like the way that one looks on your C 400 GT.

That said, those riders who carry passengers may want to go back to post #9 here. As I noted and pictured there, the Givi pad that goes on their topcases is, at best, fairly worthless (and at worst, painful). I got the BMW topcase with the BMW pad because (unlike the Givi) my wife actually liked that angled, flat, pad. Like BMW, Shad seems to have given some thought to the design of the pad, and perhaps even some testing.

Just something to think about, for those who may want to consider pillions when buying topcases.

Expanding the Shad 58X Topcase:

@mgg , et al.:

For those who have recently received the Shad 58X (or 59X), I don't know if this is really the case, but this is what I've read:

Screenshot 2023-12-19 at 2.49.04 PM.png

That's one of the comments in that video, www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJCL0Euh2L0, in which HedOpp shows his 58X mounted on a C 400 GT. So if that's true, and in case you missed it, that might be useful advice. (Not everyone is retired and has time to read through YT comments. Just passing this along.)

Shad actually shows how to do it in one of there video's and it is as the second poster states. One hand in the middle of the cover and push up. both sides go up evenly and it seems to work every time. So really not an issue, you just need to know/learn how to do it.

Just about finished with my Shad SH58x installation. So here are a few pics. I added the Shad brake running light today. It was not worth it for the time it took to install and the little bit of extra brake running light it gives. ( Thanks wspollack again for the wireing pictures in your photo gallery.) I would not do this again and don't recommend it. I also lined the inside of the box with a thick felt that I had left over from my Indian Challenger box. It worked out pretty good. I have an LED light and some bags coming for the inside, and a BMW logo to mount on the outside of the case. The only other thing I plan to do is cover the wires from my Garmin Installation.
(I do find that the suspension to be stiff, so maybe some rear shocks in the future.)

1st picture running lights
2nd picture with the brakes applied

I got in a few more parts today. The thing that makes the kickstand bigger. (Ordered from Amazon. Really high quality but didn't fit. Had to file the oem kickstand to fit it.)
The BMW badge for my top case which I think looks great. Makes the case look like it is a BMW case. Also the white on this case matches the C400gt perfectly as far as I can tell.
The B-Light from Truck Luggage. I had one of these in my Indian Challenger top case so I knew how it was going to work. There is one picture with the lights on and 2 with the lights off and you can still see everything in the case well. There is a button on the battery pack to turn them on. They stay on for 5 minutes and go off by themselves. 5 minutes is usually longer than needed but its okay because they go off automatically, just shut the case and walk away. The battery pack comes with double sided tape but I used velcro to attach it or the liner. The light just sticks around the edge of the case.

Everything looks great! Nice work!

Is there a way to change the title of this thread to Comie/Shad Tour Case? It is more about the Shad than the Comie?

Yep. If you go to the first post in the thread, and click the Edit button at the bottom of that very first post, you can not only modify the text of the post itself, but you can also modify the thread title (and then click Save at the bottom).
