The Charter Oak Rally WOULD'VE been a great time if not for that ******* scooter dying YET AGAIN. Arrived on Friday, checked in and set up my tent. Then my friend and I took a ride to the Vanilla Bean for lunch. After lunch, we tanked up and headed back to the rally site. JUST as I pulled past the gate, the scooter started to sputter and die, as if it ran out of gas.
We checked all the OBVIOUS things (yes, I did put gasoline, NOT diesel into the tank, the fuses were all intact, we could hear the fuel pump pressurizing the lines when we turned the ignition key). Saturday morning we tried a "Hail Mary" by disconnecting the battery, letting it sit for 15 minutes, then reconnecting it (in essence, "rebooting" the computer). Nothing.
The scooter is now at Max's BMW in South Windsor, CT. In five years, that damned thing has left me stranded and had to be towed more often than my 1999 K1200LT... a bike I've had for 19 years and logged over 213,000 miles!! I swear to Christ, if the issue turns out to be something OTHER than bad fuel, I am trading it in on a Suzuki Burgman so fast it'll make your head swim. I am SICK of this shit. I don't want to have to worry about whether or not I'll make it home from a trip or not. WTF happened to BMW??? Now I understand WHY they are at the BOTTOM of Consumer Reports' "Reliability Rankings." For what they charge for their products, I expect better.
