It really is! On my 1150Gs I have a Kaoko-similar one. A retired engineer in our Bm club made'em for members/ Whilst it has a knobbly ring, I needed a tactile reference point, so I drilled a tiny hole into the knobbly ring and inserted a small screw. Works well for me.
The Excel takes this one, even two levels higher: not only has it got - a way more elegant looking knob (wrong word, can't find a better one), moreover this 'knob' allows some quick-shift 'arresting' of the throttle with ~ half a turn. Inbetween this 'on' and the 'off' position is a middle position where the throttle is not completely arrested, rather still can be twisted with a firm grip.
Hrd to explain, but for me certainly a BIG improvement and more user-friendly - as I said - a nice piece of engineering.
BTW - "No!" - I am NOT Tom's brother, cousin, neither business partner, just a very satisfied customer
