Fuel filler door. c650gt

Well I've gone and done it. I accidently opened the fuel oor latch and then opened the trunk - underseat storage. Immediately the little tab on the fuel door broke off.
It is the worst designed thin abs part I have seen. The tabs are only 1/8th of an inch thick. It is designed to fail.
Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone had any luck in attempting a replacement with BMW for this really poor design.

Did you buy a replacement or did you get one under warranty? Cost if bought and what source did you use?. I should correct my post in that the tab is about 1/16 thick not 1/8th.

If/when I get a replacement I will attempt to reinforce the tabs with epoxy.

We should meet sometime at Starbucks.

I was lucky & got it done under warranty and the battery side panel had some clips missing and looked like someone had tried to glue them back on poorly that so called panel went AWOL on a fast run but also got replaced without quibble

It's really annoying they put this scooter out with the poor design of the filler door. All they had to do was to radius the top front edge of the door and the problem would be gone. It would only require a change in one die used to build this bike. But instead they're going to get flak from a lot of owners over such a dumb mistake that they'd be money ahead to simply replace all of them.

This appears to be fixed with the 2014 650's with the raised seat package. However, like the dope that I am, I accidentally popped the gas tank before dismounting and kicked it off. Lucky for me I didn't break the connectors.

The seat on the '14 is taller? Oh man, the '13 C is already higher than an RT. I wouldn't want any taller of a saddle.

Most C owners I'm sure are not 6'4". Hence the need for a shorter seat option. I'm 6' and I find myself not flat footing as I'm sure most of us experience.

I am 5'8", so really am on my tiptoes. I prefer having the high seating position, though, I like to see what's going on ahead. Having the lip extension of the floor boards underneath me is also nice, anther place to move my feet on long trips. I might put some none skid there for a little more traction.

Ordered mine from dealer today. Cost $70.00. The dealer said BMW not honoring warranty for this piece and he has seen four replaced as well as missing fuel doors during BMW product introduction.

I will escalate the issue after I get the door.

Had my seat reworked by Astech Seats, 320 S. Main St, Jonesboro, IN (Astech Seats | Custom Motorcycle Seats)

Lowered about an inch, removed all the BMW foam, added a jell pad, covered with 3 different memory foams, sanded down made a recess for the tail bone and made a recess in the seat so you don't slide off the front, cut down the sides so you can get your leg down and flat foot. Worked the seat about 6 times to get it the way I wanted it. Looking at it you can not tell it as been reworked unless you put a leg over a stock seat.

While this was going on they noted the fuel door issue. They cut the foam around the door opening, pulled the cover tight and now I can open the fuel door and the seat without a problem. They did a great job for 230 bucks.
